Paul K 93
One thing I would love to see as part of the paint kit is an unmarked bare metal texture for each of the models, so that people can add their own markings, registration numbers, logos etc.I think I can can paint , but I simply can't do a convincing bare metal texture, so if we had these provided by the experts...it would be very nice.Is it possible ? Paul K 93
I thought you couldn,t find the link to register the product either ..How do you know how the kit looks like ? Did you manage to get it...?You are right Yago. I still haven't been able to register the product because like you, I can't see it listed. I am simply assuming there are no blank bare metal skins in the kit. It really would be nice to have one with all these vintage aircraft.( By the way, I love your work. I've had quite a few of your paint jobs over the years. ) EDIT: Mathijs, sorry, was typing while you posted. I'm afraid I haven't been able to find the product listed. I've followed the link you provided in this thread, but no luck.http://www.forum.aerosoft.com/index.php?sh...c=25506&hl=Its not under Catalina, or PBY Catalina. I've been down each list one by one, and it isn't there.

Hi Paul K!A blank metal texture in basic consists inside FSX from a darker greyish color, often with subtle blueish tone, which is escorted by a stronger reflective amount. This means you have to push the color inside the alpha channel down to a darker tone. Remember that a black alpha gives most reflection amount with the environment texture. Flat color should lay around or below RGB 128,128,128.Beside there is the question for what special model the metal should be. Note that in the case of a special high quality metal looking model a separate MDL (model file) would have to be generated. Not all surface abilities are directly controllable via the textures set. For example light distribution of metal is that, that they not reflect much ambient light. So where light not hit directs by sun, they are very much darker compared toplastic, wood or fabric. I see the main difference there along with the higher reflective amount regarding environment textures, so you can see the sky, ground and clouds on the surface. And especially this characteristics (AMBIENT LIGHT DISTRIBUTION) is not controlled by a texture, but by a slider in the 3d software. So to do a chrome like look we would need a new model especially for that fact. And that would be inflationary on the data amount neededin the aircraft folders. We must discuss here a bit more. But try to follow my advice for a basic metal material which I gave in the first lines here. Many people think they are not able to paint, but only the beginning is hard. And its a very rewarding moment when you see you can do it and thatthe result pleases you with your own unique Cat. But feel free to further comment and ask if there should arise further issues.
Paul K 93
Mathijs, smack me round the face with a wet kipper ! I thought my support log in was the same as the forum log in. Followed your instructions, registered using the email address I got my product registration code by, put that code in, and the paintkit is downloading now. I shall register my Beaver X too. Thanks very much for your patience and assistance.Mr.H, thanks for all that. The Catalina is just the sort of aircraft that inspires me to learn the art of painting, because its such a good subject and in this case, a perfect model too. I shall follow your advice and see how I get on. Many thanks to you too.Beers all round!
