BAE 146 - Flying the Deafult GPS

Dear Designers, dear Users,

I'd need your kind support. I have recently purchased the Aerosoft BAE 146 which I really like. It is a very nice plane, and looks stunning. Yet I don't like two things, the first is the FMS which comes with the stuff and the other is that it seems unable to fly the default GPS.

I don't want to use the FMS of this plane so I simply leave it aone. I would use the default GPS and ATC instead but it seems to be a mission impossible. Though there is a NAV/GPS switch, but the V/L and the VNAV buttons simply do not seem to follow the FS Flightplan when in GPS mode. Pressing the key combination CTRL+N solves the problem but is very unrealistic.

Is there any chance to visually select this NAV mode to follow the FS Flightplan?

Thank you very much indeed!

Sincerely,

Zsolt

Hi Zsot

The autopilot in the Eurowings 146 is a pretty good recreation of the real world 146 autopilot, including its VNAV quirks and lack of autothrottle, and it can take some getting used to, but if you are after realism then it is worth it.

But if you really insist on having an autopilot that is more shall we say user friendly in the VNAV department then the easiest way would be to replace the autopilot with a unit that is fitted with a vertical speed selector, an altitude hold selector and an autothrottle (although the last one is not strictly needed), and change the Aircraft.cfg file to reflect the change.

Just out of curiosity, and having way to much time on my hands, I have actually changed the 146 autopilot to the default 737 unit and with a modified Aircraft.cfg file it flies OK when under autopilot VNAV and Autothrottle control.

The only problem is that the 737 unit is a lighter shade of blue/grey than the 146 panel, but if you can live with that then that would be the easy solution, but I have to repeat that if your after realism then I would take the time to get the hang of the Eurowings 146 autopilot included in the aircraft.

If you still want to fit a different autopilot, and would like to try the mod above, here is what you need to do.

BACKUP ALL THE BAE 146 AIRCRAFT.CFG AND PANEL.CFG FILES BEFORE PROCEEDING ANY FURTHER AND COPY THEM TO A SAFE LOCATION

Then open the Aircraft.cfg file (using notepad or similar) for the Bae 146-200, located in the Aircraft\Bae 146-200 folder of FS9 and find the following entry

[autopilot]

Then change

autothrottle_available=0

to

autothrottle_available=1

and change

autothrottle_arming_required=0

to

autothrottle_arming_required=1

Make the same changes to both the Bae 146-300 and the Bae-146-300QT Aircraft.cfg files

Next open the Panel.cfg file (again using notepad or similar) located in the Panel folder of the Bae146-200

And replace the [Window00] section with the one below

But please do try to get the hang of the original Bae 146 systems, it’s fun.

Dear Jim,

Thanks very much for this handy alternative. This way it is possible to fly the default GPS indeed. Anyway I had no problem with the autopilot itself, I only wanted to be able to use the default GPS instead of the FMC which is the only part of the stuff that I don't like. But I'm in love with all the rest, really! But the visual model is brilliant and the flying characteristics too, so I will set up the next flight, let's go to London City:-)

What is the exact path to copy my flight plans if I wish to use the FMC one day, where should I copy the FS flight plans to be able to load them? Is it C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\FS2002... Or simply C:\FS2002... ?

And one final question: Do you know is there a CityJet (Irish) livery available somewhere? If not, please give me a hint, who (which user here at the forum) is the one that I can ask for the repaint? Maybe somebody could to it for me, it would be fantastic to fly CityJet! I work for Ryanair as Cabin Crew here in Dublin, and I see those CityJet planes every day, I really love them.

Here is a picture on one of their birds:

Thanks for all your help, and all the best,

Zsolt

Hi Zsolt

Happy to help, as for the FMC flight plans folder I did make an earlier post regarding this in the general forum at

http://www.forum.aerosoft.com/index.php?showtopic=19746

It may be of help, I must admit that I didn’t realise that you were flying FS2002 I assumed that you would be flying FS9, but in any case the folder name and location will be the same.

As for the repaint, I don’t think that I ever come across one, but it doesn’t look to complicated a repaint to do assuming that the repaint kit is still available from the Digital Aviation Forum site at

http://www.digital-aviation.de/forum/index...447912efd741d0b

You may even get a lead on an existing repaint, or if not you could always make a request for the repaint in the forum, they are a pretty friendly bunch.

Hope it helps

Hi,

Of course I do play with FS 9 - The Century of Flight:-) Thanks for the links, I already posted a topic, asking people to make me a repaint on Cityjet. I hope somebody will do it.

Thanks for all your support!

Zsolt
