Honeycomb Echo Aviation Controller automatically switching off after a period?

Featured Replies

Hi all, just got the Echo Aviation Controller and I use it with the PMDG 737 in MSFS 2024. During cruise I put the controller away and after a period it switches off. Is there anything I can do to prevent that (except clicking a button every x minutes)?

Thanks!

Erik

Unfortunately, I don't have a response to your request, however, I wanted to know if you used the XLM Mapping files from their website or did you map the controller yourself? None of the XML Files on the website work, I have reported it and they gave me a canned response to set it up manually or come on here and figure it out myself. If you have the profiles working would you mind sharing? Many thanks!

Same issue as Onceawasp84... the XML files on the site are malformed and at least some of them appear to be identical.

Er!k: did you set things up manually?

Thanks Er!k - I tried your files briefly and they seem to work, from what I can see as someone that's new. Thanks again.

Apologies for the delay, Christmas and all. Thanks for sharing I really appreciate it. Hopefully they will have all the profiles fixed soon.

This thread was sidetracked by the XML profiles thing. However, the original question is still valid and I'm struggling with it as well.

During a flight and especially during cruise, the 10 minute sleep/standby mode timer is really quite fast. Even powered by USB-C cable, the controller switches to standby.

Any workarounds?

The single workaround I found is to not use the dongle but connect the controller via a wired usb-c data cable, effectively making it a wired controller. It does not go into standby when it's wired.

Note that it doesn't work with a charging-only cable. I've tried that and it still goes into sleep. It needs to be a data cable.

I think it is due to Windows Power Management, which turn off the controller to save power.
Try open the Device manager and goto the Blutooth controller entry and uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device".

It's not a bluetooth device. It comes with a USB dongle pre-paired. In device manager, it manifests as two "HID-compliant device" entries, a "HID-compliant game controller" entry and a "USB Input Device" entry. I did try unchecking the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" from that last entry (the others don't have the "power management" tab), but it does not help.

It's not weird that it doesn't help, since the manual also describes the 10 minute sleep mode as a feature:

We're just complaining that it's a bit too short and would like it either configurable, toggleable or extended ;)

Yes, that 10 minute shutoff is an annoyance because on autopilot, my engines just die! The weird thing is, that before I updated to the latest version of the dongle thing, it didn't auto cutoff at all. It was using whatever it shipped with (one of the earliest batches) so I don't have the software to revert it to what it was.

I will pass the request to Honeycomb. Since we are not selling this product, I can't perform extensive tests on it.
However, I will submit them the 10 minutes shut-down extension request.

Have you received any response on your request yet?

I use the controller with the Fenix A320, and after the 10-minute shutoff it goes to sleep, but there are no issues with the aircraft—the engines keep running and the autopilot remains engaged.

Yes, it doesn't seem to affect the aircraft status.

That's kind of the problem. After cruise, you initiate a descent. For descent, you decrease throttle to avoid overspeed. However, the controller went to sleep and doesn't decrease throttle. You need to press a button on the controller first to wake it up, then decrease throttle.

I know it sounds minor, but it's really annoying to decrease throttle to find out the airplane doesn't respond, having to press a button, then moving the throttle again so the sim picks up the new value.

It's so annoying that I've given up and have a wired controller instead (by connecting it via usb-c to my pc), rendering its wireless feature useless.

Well now I am getting the throttle to idle behavior when the controller shuts off.. annoying! I was using MSFS2020 but now on 2024, maybe it is related?

Plot twist: I had both the Echo Aviation controller and Thrustmaster joystick connected. When the controller went to sleep, the throttle defaulted to the Thrustmaster stick. I removed the throttle control assignment from the stick, and now there’s no issue when the controller goes to sleep.
