Entire cockpit stops working / freezes / unresponsive

Featured Replies

Just bought this plane, three flights and this has happened twice already.

Symptoms: Buttons and switches are clickable but nothing happens when you do. Levers don't move (such as throttle, spoilers or flaps). EFB is unresponsive. FMS is unresponsive. Simulation is still running because aircraft keeps moving. Screens are frozen (clock doesn't move, PFD MFD all frozen)

Cause: No idea. First time was in MSFS2020 and I was setting up the FMS and it randomly happened - This was while inputing departure airport in the RTE configuration page. Second time was in 2024, during flight, during cruise. Was at crusing altitude and speed and was not touching anything. Noticed my speed was a bit high so tried to reduce power a bit and that's when I noticed the cockpit had frozen.

Not cool that 2/3's of the times I've tried to fly this plane this happened. Any idea what causes it?

From what I read, at least 2 people have encountered this also.

Exactly the same experience.  Installs of FS2024, navigraph, and the aerosoft CRJv2 all up to date vanilla installs. No other add-ons.

They just appear to have implemented terrible, or complete lack of, exception handling in the EFB. Needs to be patched to make this at least flyable from A to B. :(

@NoobiePilotCan you describe what your last steps were before this happened? For example "adding a waypoint with an airway" or "deleting a waypoint from the legs page"? Ideally along with the full flight plan. Sadly, the only way to figure out what went wrong is to reproduce it here. So, the more details you can give me, the better. Thank you.

@signal_runnerYou should educate yourself before you start typing. C++/WASM does not implement exception handling. Even though the "try...catch" construct is part of Standard C and C++, it's not available for MSFS add-ons. Any issue will cause a so called WASM crash right away.

Hello, Hans

Small correction. It ONLY happened to me in 2024 (I was switching between 2020 and 2024 back and forth and got confused).

Anyway, the description of what I was doing is what I wrote in the original post. Unfortunately, there isn't much else I can share. It happens completely randomly. If you re-read my post, the first time I was touching the FMS but the second time the plane was just cruising along and I was not doing anything with any controls. I noticed it had frozen when I tried to move the throttle and nothing was happening. It may be relevant to mention that I have a Bravo throttle quadrant. Other details of interest:
I have GSX and AutoFPS running. Not much else.

Oh, one more thing: The sim itself is working fine. Plane is moving, sounds are coming out, etc. Just the cockpit is...dead.

I will try to do a few flights in it and see what events lead up to this, will that help?

I've been experiencing this issue myself, and was just wondering if you've gotten any additional clues as to what was causing the issue? This has happened on every flight I've attempted with the CRJ since enabling it on MSFS2024. I'm running Navigraph, GSX, and BeyondATC.

@Hans HartmannFirst of all, I love the ATR. But right now I am more than frustrated, I AM VERY ANGRY! After so many months of knowing about this problem, nothing is being done! I can do whatever I want, but the systems and switches in the cockpit freeze up again and again, completely randomly. Sometimes on the London City to Münster route, sometimes, like just now, from Saarbrücken to Munich. Sometimes in flight when I'm doing something in the cockpit, sometimes like just now when I'm doing absolutely nothing and am not at all on the PC. When I came back, surprise, systems froze. WHAT'S THAT ALL ABOUT? Yes, the aircraft is cheap and without all the bugs it's quite good, but it's currently unusable! I'll be honest, I'd like my money back because I can't use something I paid for. But I would much rather it be addressed PLEASE FINALLY. So here it is again, with all due respect, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE fix the problem PLEASE!!!! I would love to have a working ATR!

Edit: I use the ATR only in MSFS2020 and only the 72-600.

EC-135Chris, what you see is most likely a WASM crash, and Hans can't do anything about them as they are an issue with the simulator that affects all complex aircraft that are coded in C++.

Don't be mad at me, but what? I have so many planes, including PMDG and the famous Fenix, and NONE of them has anything similar.

I've tried everything over the past few weeks, desperately testing new liveries, uninstalling, reinstalling, turning off Volanta, turning off GSX. I've tried EVERYTHING because I'd so love to simulate an ATR, but NOTHING has helped. Everything keeps freezing randomly. And besides the fact that there's no fix for this problem and probably never will be, which is already more than frustrating, is that Hans or Asobo don't feel the need to communicate with their customers. I'm done with this thing!

This is happening to me as well.  Mid-flight in cruise, the cockpit becomes unresponsive.  MSFS 2024.

Which aircraft are you talking about?

I know this topic is quite old but I have started having trouble with the CRJ900 as some of the others. I have flown close to 300 flights with it and only 1 problem but now 3 of of the last 1 was a force restart after trying to load a chart, one was a crash to home screen ( I'm on Xbox X 2020) while messing with the charts and the last was putting in the approach after a forced go around. The last didn't crash, I was still able to land but none of the buttons would work in the cockpit. The aircraft would respond to the flight stick but none of the LCDs gave any info and none of the buttons worked. It's strange because I've never had any problems before. The CRJ is fun to fly it's second to the 737 because you can set it up so much faster and it's just fun to fly.

This is happening to me just now.

CRJ-700 climbing FL160 for FL250. Wasn't touching any controls, and in fact was in the external view admiring the view when the plane froze mid-air. I could still pan the camera, the sound was still there, the EFB was still working, the cockpit door could open and close.

But the yoke, throttles, and all buttons no longer respond. i waited for a while but it never came back. very sad.

When you say the plane froze midair, was the aircraft actually moving, or was the position also frozen?

This sounds a little bit like active pause may have enabled itself. Did you try enabling/disabling that by chance?
