PFPX data Renewal

Indeed, even though I was involved with getting PFPX to Aerosoft and loved it for many years, I think people are beating a dead horse. Chances of this getting moved to freeware are next to zero.

Many people still are active customers with active paid subscriptions to the PFPX server, but the developers have gone completely dark while still having us as customers.

I believe that for most of us here, Simbrief is barely an adequate alternative due to the limited functionality in comparison to PFPX. Sadly, there still isn't any good options except for PFPX. Of course it's not the PFPX developers fault, but we are quite a few who would love to discuss a way to keep access in the future. I don't think anyone is asking for PFPX to turn freeware. Mostly, we just want the server to stay online in order to access the (remaining) weather data, especially the winds aloft. In case the developers would agree to it, I'm sure there are several people who would pitch in to keep it running if it's a matter of costs (I would even consider doing it alone) - or run the server ourselves, if that's possible.

But if the stakeholders do not want to discuss that, things stop.

The last communication I had was that options were been considered.

My PFPX server subscription runs out tomorrow...
Unfortunatly, still no answer from the developers - Har anyone else had any luck in the last month?

Hello Stephen,

I am sorry to hear that, as I was hoping for your proposal to work. Either way, my subscription is running out tomorrow as well. (

I'm looking at WX2PFPX as an alternative, but do I understand it correctly that it only allows the use of one forecast interval/period, and not multiple, for one flight? I'm guessing that the conditions will basically be "static" for the entire flight, even if the flight would normally use multiple forecast periods?

That is correct Jakob, select the three hour period that best covers your flight.

As a quick follow up on this - The only way to get the "dynamic" forecasts was with the server subscription, right? It's too bad really that there is no other way in that case. I'm guessing the "dynamic" forecasts, i.e. using several intervals/periods if needed for a single flight, is a requirements for commercial operations IRL?

Correct.

Unfortunately ActiveSky API access was never implemented in PFPX which could have returned the forecast over time.
