PFPX data Renewal

Featured Replies

My subscription of PFPX expired this month but the but the renewal page (http://flightsimsoft.com/pricing) is "temporarily"( a week) not available. Does anybody know if flightsimsoft stopped with subscription for PFPX?

As the product itself is dead since years, it is very likely that they now also stopped any service around this product. So dont expect anything.

The PM could also not help you?

I actually got a very nice responce from Judith at FlightsimSoft. not only very helpful in returning the activation key, but also extended my server subscription. So you might still be lucky.

Any updates on this? Any workaround?

Unfortunately I have not heard anything further from FlightsimSoft.

Alternatives are to use ActiveSky or WX2PFPX as weather sources and the FAA site to obtain NAT and PACOTs which can be copy/pasted to PFPX in manual mode.

Also it seems that NOTAMS have gone - sadly.

The FAA removed DINS Query, so yes unfortunately functions are diminishing :(

So this is unfortunately end. No? We can still use it, thanks for free workaround (thanks to srcooke). I feared that this day would come. PFPX is an amazing piece of software, with a few updates it could go on for much longer. Alas, it was nice while it lasted.

I've tried contacting flightsimsoft by email, but without any luck.
Does anyone think that there could be a chance that the community could take over running the server, should anyone be able to contact them? I absolutely love PFPX and couldn't imagine flightsimming without it. I'll of course have to revert to the free weather program, which I'm sure does a great job as well, but being able to use the server would of course be the best option.

Same here; I still prefer PFPX by far over the only alternative we have and would like to continue paying FSS for a data subscription if it was available again. I also had no luck trying to contact the old support contact via email - presumably that inbox went dead when the website went down?

I will try to send a letter to FSS' postal address next week but wouldn't expect any reply before January. If FSS does not plan to resume subscriptions and it should be legally possible, I would be willing to offer a substitute service to help keeping PFPX alive.

Not whilst it still remains the better route planning tool, at least for Europe.

it would be really great if FSS allows the community to keep PFPX alive

Something strange happend today: I got the online wx from PFPX!! No notams but I can live without. Edit: Spoke too soon. Apparently the upper wind gets downloaded from Washington, but not the metars. They were from wx2pfpx, and got overwritten by NO METAR a bit later. I would so love to see this magnificient tool work again. While Simbrief has matured, it is still not as proffessional as PFPX.

I would be keen to know too.  It would be great to be able to do something for it.

I intend on conducting flight tests/analysis of newer aircraft if/when I move to MSFS to help build profiles for some newer models.

As far as capability and customisability - Simbrief is nowhere near, and the developers seem most uninterested in advanced features.

Unfortunately, I generally think the hobby in some areas has been increasingly dumbed-down, not least in the flight planning department.

Do you use it regularly, Mathijs?  I'm not sure you've got much skin in the game

Exactly!

Simbrief is certainly more "pilot" oriented and tailored towards quick planning to "get off the ground" as fast as possible. It's great for many uses, but the philosophy is completely different than PFPX and in my opinion, the two are barely even comparable.

Regarding dumbing-down areas of the hobby, I have to completely agree. I've seen instances of a what seemed like a developer misleading customers to justify simplified and unrealistic results in a tool. Real life aviation, especially when it comes to flight planning and performance is extremely complex and complicated, and for many areas expensive programs (and deep knowledge) is required, but the simplification that we are seeing now will intentionally stop people from diving deeper and learning more about these subjects (and I believe, even for commercial purposes). In no way do I intend on "gate keep" flight simming - It's a hobby for everyone, but that shouldn't stop developers from aiming to bring realistic and deep simulations/tools. Unfortunately, I suspect the finacial incentive to keep things simple, and maybe not be very vocal about the fact that they are, is just much larger than catering for those who are interested in deeper/more realistic tools.

I hope we will see another in depth flight planning tool some time in the future, but incredibly still, as long as the server and subscription system is kept running, PFPX actually does an incredible job. I really hope this isn't the end for it - flight simming will be much less fun without it.

I will try reaching out to Christian through some alternate channels, but currently the chances aren't looking great. I really liked the idea by @EnQof sending flightsimsoft a letter. Perhaps we could gather some signatures from the community to see if we can get them to keep the server and subscription system alive?

PS: I wanna give quick shout out to Virtual Performance Tool, which is a developer that is going in the direction of more depth and complexity for flight sim. Those who enjoy PFPX will certainly enjoy their performance tool!

Very well said! It would be great, if we could continue to upkeep PFPX along with access to associated servers. Community led development can work, just look at the Falcon BMS (very successful enthusiast led development one of (if not) the best military sims (Falcon 4.0). I am afraid that the PFPX's development team is not willing to share any details (information / code, etc.).

My subscription is near its maturity, and I am going to start solely using the wx2pfpx. PFPX is too powerful tool, to loose it.

Keep in mind, they just might not be able to share certain things. Products like this use a lot of licensed material, so you are not allowed to make freeware.

Maybe further complicated by its links to the commercial product.

Indeed, even though I was involved with getting PFPX to Aerosoft and loved it for many years, I think people are beating a dead horse. Chances of this getting moved to freeware are next to zero.

Very possible, but I hope that we at least can get some official information from the developers about the future of the server and subscription.

Regarding the commercial version/product, I believe it's being decommissioned as Christian now has a new company and product (Navionix). That could unfortunately mean that the PFPX server stays online until the commercial version is taken down, but maybe there could be an opportunity for the flighsim version if the commercial product is no longer for sale?

I've tried contacting Christian again, but haven't heard anything back. I'll update here if I do!
