Expanding your cockpit with Spacedesk

Spacedesk is a utility allowing to add extra displays to your computer by linking multiple computers or tablets
via a Local Area Network (e.g. Ethernet or Wireless)

As per the Spacedesk website :
The Primary Machine where the simulmator is installed runs the spacedesk DRIVER software.
It includes network display server software and display device drivers. 
This allows to extend or duplicate the Windows Desktop to the screen of another machine over the network. (Windows PC, Laptop)

The Secondary Machine runs spacedesk VIEWER software which acts as the secondary display. It can be one (or multiple) of the following: Tablet, phone, PC

The display of the secondary machine will be recognized in the display settings of the primary machine
as an additional display onto which you will be able to drag and drop any undocked window of your simulator.


STEP 1 : Driver installation on the primary machine
(in this example, we use a Win 10-60 bits machine)
Connect to https://www.spacedesk.net/#download
There are two sets of drivers :
1 – Drivers for the primary PC (Where the simulator is)
2 – Drivers for the secondary machine (Where the undocked windows will be placed)

Click on the primary driver that applies to your main PC
(in this example, we use a Win 10-60 bits machine)


STEP 2 :
A standard installation procedure will follow :


STEP 3 :
IMPORTANT : Make sure you allow the exception to be added otherwise the link between the computer may be denied by your firewall system !


STEP 4 :
That is all for your main PC.

STEP 5 : Driver installation on the secondary machine.
(in this example, we use an Ipad)
Go to AppStore and look for “Spacedesk – USB Display for PC”
Start the download and installation process as usual.


STEP 6 :
When the message saying Spacedesk wants to search for devices on your local network and connect to them, click OK


STEP 7 :
A windows will popup on your tablet showing the connection to your primary machine.
Make sure the Primary Machine (Server) name matches your sim computer.

Sim PC  :

STEP 8 :
The tablet is now recognized as an additional display of your sim computer and the sim computer desktop is extended on it.


STEP 9 :
You can now undock and drag and drop any window or instrument from any simulator allowing window undocking.
