How to manage undocked MSFS windows with the Popout Panel Manager

This tutorial was inspired by our fellow simmer and active forum member Ha_Ma.
He pointed us to a very interesting utility on Github.

This is NOT a user’s manual for Popout Panel Manager.
It shows the basics for you to build your own setup.
We don’t sell this product and don’t guarantee it will work.
It is purely informational within the scope of a free open forum.

In short, this utility allows to save the popped out windows (instruments mainly)

And restore them at each flight without the need to undock, resize and reposition them one by one each time.

 

STEP 1 :

Goto  https://github.com/hawkeye-stan/msfs-popout-panel-manager
Click on the latest version.

STEP 2 :
Click on “msfs-popout-panel-manager.zip”

This will download the utility to your usual downloads folder.

STEP 3 :
Goto your downloads folder and decompress (extract) the downloaded zip file.

STEP 4 :
Once decompressed, open the folder.
Open the folder named « Community »

STEP 5 :

Copy-paste the “zzz-ready-to-fly-button-skipper” folder to your normal MSFS folder.

STEP 6 :
The utility installation process is now finished.
Start MSFS and load a plane.

à DO NOT UNDOCK ANY INSTRUMENT !

STEP 7 :
Run (as administrator) the Panel Popout Manager interface.

STEP 8 :
Once in the program :
1 – Check that there is an active MSFS connection
2 – Check the active aircraft matches the one effectively loaded in MSFS
3 Click “+” to start creating your popout setup profile

STEP 9:
Create a profile name.
(choose a name making further profile identification consistent with the plane it applies to)

STEP 10 :
1 – The name you created now appears as the profile in use.
2 – Read, understand and memorize the 3 mouse-key combinations

à It is crucial to remember them as the interface will disappear during panel
     selection.
     The only way to end the selection process and make the interface reappear
      will be to make a CTRL + LEFT CLICK

3- Click “Start Panel Selection”

à This interface disappears…

STEP 11 :
LEFT-CLICK on each instrument you want to popout.
A number in a circle will appear on each instrument.

When done, CTRL-LEFT-CLICK anywhere in MSFS to end the selection process
and make the Popout Panel Manager reappear.

STEP 12 :
1 – Check that everything is OK
2 – Click “Start Pop Out”

STEP 13 :
The pop-out process begins.
The instruments will popout automaticall and appear tiled.
A window showing the positions and size will appear.
You can manually edit the numbers in the window to organize the instruments
or you can drag-drop-resize them with the mouse according to your needs.
Once the panel disposition suits you, click “Lock Panels”

STEP 14:
1 – The “Lock panels button” now reads “Unlock Panels”
2 – Goto File->Exit

The program closes down.

STEP 15 :
- Reload the plane in MSFS. No popups appear – this is normal !
- Restart the Popout Panel Manager, check MSFS is connected with the correct plane.
- Click “Start Pop Out”

à The instruments will popout in the same disposition you set them up !
