Setting up the basic hardware controls

This section will focus on how to configure your hardware to steer the Twin Otter.
It is a general purpose method, however we will demonstrate it
using the Honeycomb Alpha Yoke and the Honeycomb Bravo Throttle.

1 - AILERONS AND ELEVATOR

Do the following assignments in MSFS.
Goto OPTIONS -> CONTROLS OPTIONS
Assign AILERONS AXIS and ELEVATOR AXIS to the yoke roll and pitch axes

Please login to display this image.

2 - ELEVATOR AND RUDDER TRIMS

NOTE : If you use the elevator trim wheel on the Bravo throttle, DO NOT
             assign the elevator trimming function on the yoke as it may result in
             multiple assignments and signal conflict.
Do the following assignments in MSFS.
Goto OPTIONS -> CONTROLS OPTIONS
Assign RUDDER TRIM RIGHT/LEFT to the rocker switches on the right of the yoke.
Assign ELEVATOR TRIM UP/DOWN the rocker switches on the left of the yoke

Please login to display this image.

3 - THROTTLE AND REVERSERS
Do the following assignments in MSFS.
Goto OPTIONS -> CONTROLS OPTIONS
Assign TROTTLE (1)(2) AXIS to the two left levers
Assign THROTTLE(1)(2) DECREASE to the levers detent contacts
This will trigger the reversers

Please login to display this image.

 4 - PROPELLER PITCH AND FEATHER
Do the following assignments in MSFS.
Goto OPTIONS -> CONTROLS OPTIONS
Assign PROPELLER (1)(2) AXIS to the two middle levers
Assign TOGGLE PROPELLER REVERSE THRUST to the left propeller lever detent
so that when advancing the propeller levers, they will move backwards up to the FEATHER position.
To go back in normal pitch operation, toggle the detent again.

Please login to display this image.

5 – FUEL CONTROL

Do the following assignments in MSFS.
Goto OPTIONS -> CONTROLS OPTIONS
Assign MIXTURE (1)(2) AXIS (-100 to 100%) to the two right levers

Please login to display this image.

6 - ELEVATOR TRIM & FLAPS CONTROL
Do the following assignments in MSFS.
Goto OPTIONS -> CONTROLS OPTIONS
Assign ELEVATOR TRIM UP/DOWN TO the trim wheel inputs

Assign INCREASE/DECREASE FLAPS to the flaps switch inputs

Please login to display this image.

7 - SENSITIVITIES

Make sure the sensitivity curve is linear and reactivity is set to 100% for all axes

Please login to display this image.

For Thrusmaster Warthog, concerning Reversers: Throttle 1/2 decrease don't work (like other multi engines planes).

Need to use:

Please login to display this image.

 It is the same issue than Propeller feathering > need to use a toggle common for both engine, impossible to select a specific engine.

But it is the same for every multi engines.

Hi,

About the Warthog, it should work :
This a part of the Warthog configuration for the CRJ.
As the functions are the same, it should work for the Twin Otter too :

Assign the lifting reversers detents on the levers to THROTTLE 1 DECREASE and THROTTLE 2 DECREASE

The reversers are engaged by
1.
 pulling the levers upwards when in IDLE then
2. pulling backwards into the reverser section

It works !

In fact I noticed the command doesn't react immediatly, I have to wait 2 seconds, then it moves to reverse :)

Hi Geraldlec,

Yes indeed, it isn't immediate.

Thank you for this feedback 8

Hello everyone and thank you for those informations. I use a Thrustmaster TWS Throttle.

What do you suggest to set the reverse knowing that is a single throttle command and no reverse option.

Thank you.

Hi Phil,

Doesn't it have a detent that triggers an input ?
(I can't remember for sure...)

Thanks.

You can also assign the same contact to

the THROTTLE x DECREASE function.

So once you trigger the button, you immediately go into reverse.

Best regards.

Thanks for the suggestion.

My bad in the previous message. It´s the TOOGLE THROTTLE REVERSE THRUST" and not the "TOOGLE PROPELLER REVERSE TRUST"

Now everything works fine.
