A330 CTD after stall.

Good evening all

Well this is a bit of a mess. I was doing a flight today - I set it running this morning and was periodically checking it through the day. At about 5:50pm I decided to go for a walk to get some fresh air. When I returned I found that the simulator had crashed but it had frozen in place. The aircraft was in A.Floor mode with an indicated altitude of ~ 30,000ft and an IAS of 130kts. In my haste and quite understandable frustration I forgot to screenshot this.

I've attached the flight log from my virtual airlines SmartCARS system. I have also attached some screenshots from Volanta showing the bizzarre behaviour of the aircraft. What troubles me is that this is over 7 hours into the flight. Nobody touched the joystick or throttle controls (I'm quite certain) to move the aircraft from cruise mode, so there's no reason that this should've happened at all. I was hoping someone here might be able to make sense of all of this. The event viewer log is also below. I have read threads with regards the EFB and this module but I'd barely touched it in the flight except just after take off when I put the STAR and ILS charts on the kneeboard. I believe the EFB was on the Windy page at the time of the crash from several hours before. The livery used was the G-VKSS that comes with the download.

Hopefully someone can make sense of what exactly happened here. I had completed many a flight using this aircraft in v5.2, so I am disappointed with the CTDs I've had in 5.3 since I moved recently (I had a DXGI Device Reset Error yesterday which did not generate an event log). It could be that the stall and the CTD are seperate events but it seems unlikely to me. I appreciate any insights.

Many thanks

Sam

Sorry to hear you had a problem.

Actually, this is a known issue for which the team has spent several hundred hours on (myself at least 50) taking both manual and automatic snapshots of sometimes 25 or more variables. Thus far we have been unable to find the cause, nor can we duplicate this problem except randomly. We have also collected tons of data from users.  If we were able to replicate this regularly we'd be able to narrow things down.  I've personally witnessed this issue a few times with video recording instrumention along with pretty significant manual and automatic data collection.

The developers have looked very hard at the code that might be involved in this and still haven't found a cause.

Thanksfully this does not happen reguarly, and the best advice is not to leave the aircraft as you can easily recover if you are in command when it occurs.

I know it's not the answer you're looking for, and I'm tremendously and sincerely sorry for giving you this answer, but it's an honest take on this issue and the work that's been done to find and correct it.

My best wishes to you for a happy holiday season!

Dave
