Jeff W
Leg 10 VABB-VEAB We will compete this phase of the journey in two legs. The first leg will take us across India to Allahabad (one of the world’s oldest known cities.) We will fly over the Indian states of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh. Our final approach into Allahabad will take us past Triveni Sangam. Triveni Sangam is the confluence of the Ganges, Yamuna, and the mythical Sarasvati River. The Ganges and Yamuna there can be identified by their different colors – the water of the Ganges is clear while that of Yamuna is greenish in color. The third river, mythical Saraswati, is called invisible. A place of religious importance and the site for historic Kumbh Mela held every 12 years, over the years it has also been the site of immersion of ashes of several national leaders, including Mahatma Gandhi in 1949. Jeff W
Leg 12 VECC-VYYY The next phase of the journey begins with a leg from Kolkata to Yangon. Departing to the northeast reaching the Padma (lower Ganges) below its junction with the Brahmaputra River. Turning southeast we follow the Meghna River, one of the three that form the Ganges Delta, the largest delta on earth, which fans out to the Bay of Bengal. Our route will take us over Chittagong. The Chittagong area has been a recorded seaport since the 4th century BCE. In the 2nd century, the harbor appeared on Ptolemy's map, drawn by the Greco-Roman cartographer Claudius Ptolemy. The map mentions the harbor as one of the finest in the Eastern world. Turning eastward we cross the mountainous Chin region of Burma to reach World Heritage Site of Bagan where over 10000 small temples were constructed in the 9th to 13th centuries. From this point we follow the Irrawaddy River sometimes referred to as 'The Road to Mandalay' south to Yangon on the Andaman Sea. Paul K
When it comes to screenshots, you can't go far wrong with the PMDG DC6 over MSFS2020 scenery. Some great ones in this thread, but I particularly like that murky night approach into Kolkata. The air quality is often less than desirable there. Looking forward to the next stage. Jeff W
Leg 15 WMKL-WIET While Singapore is the next major city close to the Phileas Fogg route, we are going to make a slight diversion a bit further south. We initially head south along the Straits of Malacca to Penang, then cross the straits to Sumatra reaching the coast near Medan. Turning south we cross the immense geologic feature of Lake Toba (the caldera of a supervolcano). Lake Toba is the site of a supervolcanic eruption estimated at VEI 8 that occurred 69,000 to 77,000 years ago, representing a climate-changing event. It is the largest-known explosive eruption on Earth in the last 25 million years. Continuing south we cross the equator near Mount Talakmau, then descending past Lake Maninjau (a second volcano caldera), we reach Padang on the west coast of Sumatra.
