I got three minutes out of this before a left to look at the manual. Now I ma stuck unable to launch the sim from the steam library page.

Anyone else struggling with this?

the game launches to the menu screen for me but cannot interact with it.

mmm could be the Matrox, we have seen a lot of issues with that in other products. Could you try without so we can confirm that?

Yes, if the hardware requirements are not met a steam application will not load.
