Missing waypoints in German airport Transitions

Recommended Posts

Hey guys. When flying into most German airports (Maybe other countries too) FMC seems to skip way points that are in the straight line. For example as shown in chart below, the CRJ enters DM421 -> DM429 -> DM439 -> DM437. It's skipping all the waypoints in between and that is frustrating when flying on VATSIM.

Is there a solution for following?

Imagine how annoying it is for RW pilots when they get cleared to DM426 for example.

These waypoints are in the database so you just enter them into the FMS when an “insensitive” ATC controller clears you to one and then you “clean up” the FMS flightplan, or better yet you order the PM to do it because CRM wise you are not allowed to….

oh so in real life they don't appear also?

That is the way it is yes. Probably to prevent the navigation display from being cluttered up too much. Or just to annoy us pilots… ;)

The FMS in the real CRJ has a limited amount of internal RAM memory for holding waypoints and doing calculations. It is a 1991 design flying in 2021. For this reason it will often not show a sequence of intermediate RNAV waypoints in an arrival procedure like this when they form a straight line path, in order to conserve working memory and speed up processing.

As The Dude said, if one of the intermediate waypoints is needed, it can be pulled from the database and dropped onto the LEGS page.

More modern FMS systems with considerably faster CPUs and more working memory (737NG or A320 for instance), will usually show all the intermediate waypoints in this kind of procedure.
