Aerosoft SimWare 729 Posted April 3, 2021 Aerosoft Share Posted April 3, 2021 How to drive the Aerosoft CRJ 550/700 steering wheel (Tiller) This tutorial shows how to configure steering wheel / tiller with the Aerosoft CRJ’s for Microsoft Flight Simulator. Of course you can drive the steering wheel with the rudder axis. In this case both the steering wheel and the rudder will turn together. How to control the steering wheel independently ? (without moving the rudder) Unlike for the rudder, Microsoft Flight Simulator doesn’t provide an axis to do so but has two inputs : INCREASE STEERING DECREASE STEERING These are found under the MISCELLANEOUS category of the controls. The system is very simple : Assign two buttons or a ON-OFF-ON rocker switch or a rotary encoder to both these inputs. Please login to display this image. Each pulse will turn the steering wheel for a couple of degrees left or right. Here are some application examples with different devices. EXAMPLE 1: The steering inputs are assigned to the elevator trim wheel inputs of the Honeycomb Bravo Throttle. This is simply an encoder (pulse generator) mechanically connected to a handwheel. Rotating it in one direction will generate a pulse train on one input. Rotating it in another direction will generate a pulse train on another input Please login to display this image. EXAMPLE 2: The steering inputs are assigned to the TCA Quadrant Rudder Trim button inputs. This button is simply a temporary ON-OFF-ON rocker switch driving two inputs. Please login to display this image. EXAMPLE 3: The steering inputs are assigned to VRinsight TT Panel push buttons and rotary encoder knob. Please login to display this image. EXAMPLE 4: You can also buid your own tiller system based on I/O board such as the LeoBodnar BU0836 or BBI-xx boards. Please login to display this image.
