IAS to MACH post update

Recommended Posts

Hi,

The autopilot still does not switch correctly to Mach as it should, climbing at 290kts IAS, the autopilot happily carries on pitching to that speed well beyond M0.74. I was slightly testing to see when it would swap over but got bored of not being able to climb when I reached around M0.80.

The speed bug in the real aircraft only switches from IAS to Mach automatically at one altitude - 31,600 feet. This has been confirmed by several r/w CRJ pilots.

The sim version used to switch automatically at the IAS/Mach reference programmed in the VNAV CLB page in the PERF section of the FMS. This was actually a bug.

The proper procedure is to climb at a fixed IAS until the current Mach reaches the Mach number you want to use for continued climb, and manually switch to Mach mode by pressing the center of the Speed knob. It will eventually switch by itself, but only at 31,600 feet - which is the same altitude where the autopilot goes to 1/2 bank mode.
