Spoilers deploy too fast

Recommended Posts

Auto speedbrakes deploy too fast and all at once on touchdown. It should be inboard spoiler first then outboard after the main gear suspension is all the way down about 1.5-2 seconds later. (In flight spoilers are perfect it’s just auto on touchdown).

Also they stow too fast.

Here is a video showing spoilers deploy:

I noticed the same thing. In real life they have a slower deployment/retraction time, while in the sim it’s almost instant. Here’s a video I recorded on an AA CRJ-700 last June.

Great. I'll take that as you will fix this airplane when the sim continues to improve. Looking forward to it.

Hi Mathjis has the sim improved in this capability? I can imagine there has been some work done on animation speeds for some

of the other aircraft in advanced stages that are being developed.

Thanks!

Will need to ask.

Hi Mathijs

When you talk to them ask them the following too:

1. What was up with the ending to Morbius?

2. Why is the MLB still going to use the ghost runner in extra innings?

3. How many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie roll tootsie pop?  This one needs a definitive answer for craps sake!

4. Why is it a pair of panties but only one (singular) bra?  Baffled me since about 5th grade.

5. Isn't everyone the last person to die in their lifetime?

6. Cereal, soup or not?  Inquiring minds need to know!

It cracks me up that on so many occasions I have been accused of actually being "crabby" while that/those same people exhibit zero sense of humor.  See downvote above.  They must be having a pimple outbreak.

Perhaps because you feel the need to bump up a topic after weeks of inactivity. And even then it is just to make fun of someone asking a valid question... Useless post, off topic, unnecessary, could use a downvote.

Nah, someone's got a missing funny bone.  I was actually replying to Mathjis and no one else poking fun at asking questions of Asobo.  I bet, sort of knowing Mathjis's sense of humor, he got a chuckle out of it.  I did not feel a need to bump a post, that is just the way forum's work.  The post was not interesting to me, taking a man to man pot shot with/at Mathijs was, poor guy needs a chuckle here an there (and probably a few beers).  However, you folks that are easily offended need a knap.

BTW, to go back on track, I think the spoiler animation needs work, but understand the limitations of the sim being used.

Just out of curiosity, is the spoiler animation a feature within MSFS? Does that mean all spoilers move the same way/with the same rate on all aircraft? I find that really hard to believe but since I don't know the inner workings of these things I'm curious to know. I would have thought all animations are modeled by the developer, especially since there are a lot of different animations out there.

Obviously this is a guess on my part but a slightly educated one.  I don't believe that the CRJ animation is a feature of MSFS.  It was probably implemented by the CRJ team.  However, where the sim limitation would come in would be how much control over that movement is/was available.  You can see these snappy animations in all planes I have tried, for example, in the nose wheel while making steering corrections.  The sim would set what animations are possible and the rules of implementing those animations.  It's like they give you a box of a certain size and you can do anything you want in the box but are limited by the size of the box.  Developers need a bigger box.

Technically my guess would be the animation currently is fairly linear.  AS would need the ability to add a dampening curve like we do with our controls.

That sounds plausible, but I'm still struggling to understand why a developer shouldn't be able to control the animation speed and delay between inner and outer spoilers. I've seen some pretty neat landing gear animations with slight differences between left and right main gear doors so why shouldn't AS be able to do the same thing on the spoilers? But apparently they can't and if they say so I have to believe it. I'm a guy that get a bit itchy when someone tells me that something is impossible. I've found that it most often just takes a bit longer and requires some out of the box thinking 🙂

I don't think it is impossible, just not possible today due to sim limitations as reported by the developer.  It may also be something that will change with the next update as there have been a few Sim Updates since the last CRJ.  This is a point of contention among many here as you can read.  Just remember that all the developers are shooting at a rapidly moving target at this time.  The funny thing, I see nothing different today regarding development progress of the sim and the addons like the CRJ, when compared to every other simulator release in history (I have literally owned every simulator from Sub-Logic, the very first one, to MSFS).

I am scratching my head on this one too. How can Aerosoft make a custom APU door opening animation, but are unable to animate a similar visual mechanism?
