Crosswind at cruise

Recommended Posts

Having a bit of an issue cruising with a significant crosswind. Currently in a flight at FL390 M.78, and if the crosswind gets above ~70kt , the autopilot starts to struggle following the NAV path - doing a series of quite steep S turns and either under- or overcorrects.

Sorry to hear of that experience but a kind of expected. First you are flying at the edge of the flight envelope and faster as recommended. 0,74 for economy and 0.76 for a fast CRZ.

And you are facd with a wind wind and turbulence model that is exaggerating the impact on a fuselage with wings. It hits all aircraft of small or big size and until this will be smoothened out, there is nothing we can do about it. Sorry!

CRJs happily cruise at up to FL410 and over M.80, with a typical cruise of M.78 (as per the Aerosoft manual that comes with it, max cruise is M0.83 and as per Mitsubishi, standard cruise is M0.78)

If this behaviour is due to exaggerated wind effects in the sim and we should fly at 0.74 to be "safe" that's fine for now, but it is still something I would expect to be improved over time (either through developers pushing for sim changes, better handling within the constraints of the sim or both).

Your statement is not correct according the manuals we have. Yes you can get it up to FL410, but only on a ferry flight with no passengers. For 2/3 loaded plane (70.500 lbs) the limit is FL390 at ISA temperature and drops further if it is warmer.
