MCDU Options problem

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. Today a very strange problem occured when I tried to start my daily flight in P3D v5. Many options in the MCDU 4 of the Airbus A320/A321 Proferssional were greyed out. Furthermore some switches in the cockpit were set to a very odd position and I could operate the battery knobs. I tried to turn off the engines and set parking brake but that did not help. I noticed many other people had this problem due to compability but that cant be the problem in my case. I have used this addon for many months and I never had such an issue. I even reinstalled the addon but nothing happened. I hope somebody can help me.

Kind regards.

I forgot to mention that this problem occured after I updated the Addon in order to be able to use TCA Quadrant. It is even more strange that I updated it already yesterday and back then everything worked. After Re-Installation today WITHOUT updating the product it also worked. After updating though the problem occured again.

Have you the latest full installer? As base for the updater?

Thank you for your answer. Yes I have. But what has the A320 installer to do with the updater? This problem really occured from one day to the other. Yesterday everything worked pefectly fine. Today I tried to listen carefully when I load the A320 in the sim. Normally there is no sound for half a second. Within this time I opened MCDU 4. After another second I hear some alarms and beeping, the engines are spooling up a bit and all the greyed out options in MCDU 4 appear. But now the aircraft loads in the sim, no alarms (I hear engine sounds though) and many options in the MCDU 4 stay greyed out.

This is really, really strange. I can make a video of that if necessary.

To me it seems that something is wrong with your files / configuration because the plane does not load as required. The only suggestion I have is to completely reinstall the Airbus. Please first deinstall the current version and make clear that there are no remains from a previous installation (please see the attached file). The download the current installer from your Aerosoft account and newly install the plane. After that use the updater to update the installer version to the current one. This procedure should solve your problems.

I have the same issue as the original poster.

If I use the base version of A320/321 everything is fine and I can access the MCDU options.

If I update it to the latest version with the updater I get the same issue as above.

I also  updated to use the TCA Quadrant. I also have both the A318/319 and the A330 BUT they work ok and I can access all the MCDU options.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled as above and it makes no difference.

I ran the AS Version info and get the same for both the 1400 and 1420 version

I have re-read the old thread on a similar issue , with st Elmo’s fire where the solution was to reinstall the sim. What I can’t understand is why everything is OK with the base version and all the other A318/319/330 but suddenly the ‘sim is broken’  for the A320/320 when I upgrade the A320/321. And why Is it also OK  for the others?

I have now uninstalled Prepar3d then reinstalled it .And the problem still appears. Menu options greyed out. My next plan is to disable any add on that may be interfering. A long shot as why would they only interfere with the A320 ?

So I have now uninstalled and installed prepar3d v 5.1 into a new clean directory with no Add ons at all and double checking all the local and user data files were blank before installation. On installing the A320 base version all was fine no greyed out menu options. I set the default start up option to turn around. Every thing looked great.

upgrading to the latest version and on startup the A320 was back in ready to take off state and the options were greyed our. Parking  was on,. Switching engines off and everything off had no impact as always.

I have given up now and recovered my installation back to where it was at the start of the month. Maybe once the pandemic is over and there are a few upgrades down the line I can see what prepar3d v6 is like with this bus.

anyway I have the 318/319 and 330 to enjoy.

There has been today another update for the A320/A321 e.g. version 1.4.2.1. Did you try that and was the result the same than before?

updating to the latest version version 1.4.2.1 made no difference.

However   I checked on the Aerosoft shop for the latest available version and noted that it was 1.4.0.1 ( I had been using the base version 1.4.0.0. and upgrading from that.)

I downloaded the 1.4.0.1 version . All ok with that when installed.
AND once updating from that version to 1.4.2.1 the grey options have disappeared and all is OK ...at last

the MD5 File hash of the V1400.exe  I have is 643A2376F0FB04BAAEAFBE9A07F8D2C3 . It may be corrupted but seems unlikely.

Why it now works ? who knows but if it is not broken now leave it alone.

Great news that finally the problem could be solved. If there are problems and a new installation is required you should always download the latest e. g. actual installer from your account to start with (as it was mentioned in the document I previously attached) and not use a file you once backuped. The reason is quite simple the AS Updater starts from there e.g. it is based on this latest installer version as a basis.
