ENAT - Lead in approach lights RWY29 - Not omni-directional.

Recommended Posts

First: Great scenery! Really happy to see this for X-Plane !!

However: These lights in real life are omnidirectional (visible from all directions). In X-Plane they are not (seems the vis range is 180 degree). I guess this issue is because this airport is based upon Alta X for P3D (same issue in P3D)

In X-Plane there is no problem to change the light-type to a light that are omni-directional (and also visible in daytime). (I use the LIGHT_NAMED SW_bb)

Any plans to include this in a future update ?

Edit: If you are comfortable with text editiding, you can open the following file: ..\Custom Scenery\Aerosoft - ENAT Alta - 02 - Airport\objects\ENAT_CirclingLight.OBJ in Notepad ore Notepad++ (recommended)

On the bottom of this file you find this line (line nr 190)

LIGHT_PARAM spot_params_bb 0.00049 16.70643 -0.18619 1.00 0.72 0.30 1.50 0.00 -0.09 1.00 0.574

Change this to:

#LIGHT_PARAM spot_params_bb 0.00049 16.70643 -0.18619 1.00 0.72 0.30 1.50 0.00 -0.09 1.00 0.574
LIGHT_NAMED SW_bb 0.00049 16.70643 -0.18619 1.00 0.72 0.30 1.50 0.00 -0.09 1.00 0.574
LIGHT_SPILL_CUSTOM 0.00049 16.70643 -0.18619 1.00 0.72 0.30 1 20 0 0 0 1

In the code above, I have also added some light spill to the ground (see image)

This is what I found on Alta.. But we can talk to the tower to check or get some references for you, if any :)

PS. When you got the time, also check the PAPI (own post below this one) bug?

Do you have any documented reference for that? It's indeed based on P3D which is directional as well.

I have lived there for 5 years, and I have my own visual reference :). Just as a confirmation: Here is a screen capture from google showing one of the circling lights from "behind". They are omni-directional for sure, and also have double lights pr pole (not single as in the scenery)

Remember discussing this rgd the P3D scenery as well, and there was a limitation within P3D SDK to make the lights omnidirectional.

You clearly see the Lead in lights in this real video - 15 seconds in when the NAX is turning for takeoff RWY29

Hi again :)

Did some more editing in the "ENAT_CirclingLight.OBJ" file to get the lights more as they are in real life: (code below)

Please login to display this image.

Code:

#LIGHT_PARAM spot_params_bb 0.00049 16.70643 -0.18619 1.00 0.72 0.30 1.50 0.00 -0.09 1.00 0.574
LIGHT_NAMED SW_bb 0.8 16.70643 0 1.00 0.72 0.30
LIGHT_NAMED SW_bb 0.9 16.70643 0 1.00 0.72 0.30
LIGHT_NAMED SW_bb 1 16.70643 0 1.00 0.72 0.30
LIGHT_NAMED SW_bb 1.1 16.70643 0 1.00 0.72 0.30
LIGHT_NAMED SW_bb -0.8 16.70643 0 1.00 0.72 0.30
LIGHT_NAMED SW_bb -0.9 16.70643 0 1.00 0.72 0.30
LIGHT_NAMED SW_bb -1 16.70643 0 1.00 0.72 0.30
LIGHT_NAMED SW_bb -1.1 16.70643 0 1.00 0.72 0.30
LIGHT_SPILL_CUSTOM 0.95 16.70643 0 1.00 0.72 0.30 1 20 0 0 0 1
LIGHT_SPILL_CUSTOM -0.95 16.70643 0 1.00 0.72 0.30 1 20 0 0 0 1

As you see from image and youtube video, the lights are more like bars.. I have inserted 2*4 light points instead of one single. This makes the lighst far more visible as well :)

@Marten Here you go.. Got this from todays approach into Alta. As you can see the lights, image taken north of ALF, image show that they are at least

viewable from all of the northern sector. Captain confirmed they are omni-directional
