Thanks!  I was looking for fin numbers yesterday.  You wouldn't know where to find those would you?

Another few sites which can be helpful for aircraft info, amongst other things:

https://www.jetphotos.com/

https://www.airliners.net/

https://flightaware.com/

Does the fin number match with the C/N number from my link?

Hi Bob,

No, unfortunately not.  Aircraft seem to have endless numbers relating to their manufacture and use :D .

The C/N is the construction number, the L/N is the line number, and of course your link also shows other info, but unfortunately no Fin number.  I think I did find Fin numbers for a bunch of airliners once, but from memory it must have been when I had a premium subscription (free for a trial period) with either Flight Aware or Flight Radar 24.  These sites have a great deal of info on aircraft but a lot of it is only accessible to users paying a subscription.

Air Canada actually has a page outlining the Fin number for all their aircraft, but as far as I have seen they are the only airline doing this. Apparently the Fin number is a code made of letters and/or numbers inscribed on the vertical tail of airliners, and it is used by the airline to differentiate their fleet.  Why they can't use the rego number or another number I don't know :D .  I suppose it's some sort of short code to sort their aircraft by.

https://www.aircanada.com/ca/en/aco/home/fly/onboard/fleet/fins.html

The only reason I have for searching for Fin numbers is that on Simbrief they have a "Saved Airframes" database where you can add particular sim aircraft that you fly regularly and there are a lot of fields available to add or edit, including the Fin number, Mode-S code, SELCAL code, engine type, number of seats etc etc.  So it's not so important, just something I was curious about finding.

Cheers,

Hi,

I'm also interested in looking for those fin or tail numbers.

As you mentioned [Scotth6] Air Canada may be the only company that provides free tail numbers for their entire air fleet.
But it seems to me that it's not as easy for the other companies even if you have like me a "Silver" account on FligntRadar24.
However, on this excellent website it is specified  that even the "Basic" freeware account can have access to the tail number of each aircraft.

So I did an experiment under my "Silver" account by taking as example an Air Canada B789 aircraft which I knew its tail number [858 ](thanks to Air Canada).
Luckily, during my Fliht Radar session the Air Canada 789 Dreamliner registered C-FVND was in flight.

Here is the information provided for this aircraft on FligntRadar24:

Please login to display this image.

You can actually see :

Air craft type (B789)
registration number C-FVND
serial number(MSN) 38361
Icao 24 bit adresse CO38CA
Squawk 6333

But nothing on the Tail number [858]
And this applies to all other airlines' aircraft.
So I think this quest for the Tail number is much more difficult than it seems (Except for Air Canada).

Cheers,

Login not working, but using http://rzjets.net/aircraft/ and searching the registration works quite well.
