How can I train approaches?

(1) Saving the flight at some point before intercepting the localizer to load this saved flight later for practices or (2) using the SIMstarter NG for this?

That's not really an approach, that's just the localizer phase.

 

Quick and dirty explanation:

Takeoff from some runway and in the MCDU configure an approach to that same runway. Takeoff, approach, intercept ILS (if that's the case), go around, rinse and repeat.

Moderator Note: I deleted the A330 reference in the thread title, since the question applies to many more aircraft that the A330. I'm sure there are others that would like to know how to do this.

I use KTNT (Dade-Collier Training And Transition) airport to practice approaches.  It's a big jet-capable runway in the middle of the Florida Everglades.  It's not far from KMIA if you want to fly out to KTNT.   It has an RNAV approach published as I recall, but I think no ILS.

 

Anyway you can certainly do a bunch of patterns there without much other traffic.  The KMIA approaching aircraft should be well above your pattern altitude.  I use KTNT for familiarizing with a new-to-me aircraft.  Like the A330
