There is no need to use it. Only case might be single engine taxi depending on SOP. But that is not officially supported.

The characteristic sound might be the PTU during engine start.

That is not in any checklist I am familiar with. You may hear the pump running when the cargo doors are open, indeed I once had a Yellow System overheat when the door selector stuck and the pump kept running. I had to pull a CB to get it to stop.
This is from the checklist

OVERHEAD PANEL * ALL WHITE LIGHTS...............................EXTINGUISH(1)

* RCDR GND CTL pb-sw..............................................ON CVR TEST pb.............................................................PRESS CAPT & PURS/CAPT sw..............................................CAPT * ALL IR MODE selector.............................................NAV EXTERIOR LIGHTS........................................................SET * SIGNS.......................................................................SET PROB/WINDOW HEAT................................................AUTO LDG ELEV....................................................................AUTO * PACK FLOW...................................................ASRQRD ELEC panel................................................................CHECK BAT............................................................................CHECK ENG FIRE........................................................CHECK/TEST AUDIO SWITCH..........................................................NORM VENT panel...............................................................CHECK PA (3rd occupant)....................................................RECEPT MAINT panel..............................................................CHECK

There is also this -

The ACCU PRESS indication must be in the green band. If required, use the electric pump on yellow hydraulic system to recharge the brake accumulator. WARNING Yellow and green hydraulic systems are pressurized from yellow electric pump. Get ground crew clearance before using the electric pump.
