I have just reinstalled PFPX and upgraded to V2.03.  When I start the program as administrator It will start updating the weather and other items, then just CTD.

You uninstalled the previous version first ?

If not make sure you do not use an old shortcut.

Ensure your graphics drivers are upto date.

Try reinstalling the Visual Basic Runtimes from HERE , download both vc_redist.x86.exe & vc_redist.x64.exe files. Uninstall the existing entries via program manager, look for Microsoft Visual C++ 2017 entries ( x86 & x64 ) and reboot before installing the downloaded versions

I still see the same error even after reinstallation of the redistributables.

I have this since I installed PFPX on my new laptop. W10 and all drivers are uptodate.

Yes, exactly those.

Could it be that the 4k display of my Laptop is the problem? The graphicard is a GTX1060 with latest Nvidia driver

I couldn't suggest that is the problem Otto, most of the time reinstall of graphics drivers and/or vcredist resolves the problems users have posted.

Windows event viewer give any clue ?

If it remains a problem open a support ticket at FlightsimSoft.
