Madrid Professional - Runway use for AI aircraft

In the Configurator the only options are

- Wind from North RW36 takeoff / 32 landing

- Wind from South RW 14 takeoff / 18 landing

- All runways open (unrealistic Traffic).

The first two options don't make much sense if you use a dynamic weather engine because you have to make this choice before starting the sim - when you don't know yet what wind there will be when you arrive at Madrid a few hours later.

The third option is - as described - totally unrealistic with AI traffic landing on runways 36 and taking off from runways 32.

So I miss a fourth option:

- runways 36 and 14 open for takeoff (only), runways 18 and 32 open for landing (only).

That would allow a realistic AI traffic with both wind directions.

Isn't that possible?

That would be nice to have, but why did you think that it is not in the scenery per default and the three option are offert?

Because the Sim will not be able to close/open only one side for an operation. Even when the Code offers the option, the engine only handle the traffic (Atc or AI) based on the config of the Base End for the runway in any directions.

I'm not sure if I understand. What do you mean by "default"? It's not possible to uncheck all three AFCAD setting options, one has to be checked.

Do I understand correctly: When the setting "Wind from north" is enabled, but the actual wind is from the south, AI traffic will use RW 18 for takeoff and 14 for landing, because 18/36 was assigned for takeoff and 14/32 assigned for landing? And that is the only way to do it because of the sim's limitations?

even if you onle check 18 for takeoff the AI/ATC engine will also use 36 - a problem/shortcoming since the FS2004 days that never was solved by MS, Lockheed or the Steam people.

there are some "dirty" techniques to "lure" the traffic in only using one direction of a runway but they heavily depend on your use and composition of AI traffic and are shurely nothing for an official release

Thanks for confirming.

We really need a smarter handling of AI in the sim. I remember a program called AIController which allowed to set the runway(s) for AI traffic to use for takeoff and landing a few years ago. Unfortunately apparently it has been abandoned.

The AI is the same since implemented into the FS (FS2004) and is limited in many parts, usable for a simple airport with one runway used in  both directions for takeoff and landing. Cross runways are not implemented, but could be handled with workarounds, special situations like in Madrid are not possible.

As long as the engine will not be redesigned complete, it will be always a limited „best possible“ workaround.

Understood. Thanks!
