KC-135 flight Sola - Ørland - Sola

Hi,

On Wednsday Sept. 13th I was lucky enough to get my third KC-135 trip. This was my first in the "R" and I enjoyed the quietness immensly compared to the E-model. Crew was from the Ohio ANG and we flew an Ariz ANG aircraft. Here are some pics, mainly showing F-16s from the RNoAF, BAF (great formation flyers) and the Hellenic AF (not so good at hooking up on the boom). Of special things to look for on the RNoAF aircraft is the PANTERA targeting pod, IRIS-T missile and and the HMCS worn by the pilots. In the pics, you can see the pilots using the Helmet Mounted Cueing System is looking at us, note how the PANTERA sensor "looks" the same way. Awsome piece of kit, LANTIRN, go bury yourself :twisted: Belgian aircraft also carry the huge MRP (Therma Modular Recce Pod) and they are from 1 Sqn (Stingers). Hellenic aircraft used the C/S "Ouzo" and they fly the block 52+ C/D models. Note the huge spine on the two seater at the end. They also take the price for the dirtiest aircraft. Most aircraft also carry the BGT/Rangeless ACMI pod, the days of instrumented ACMI ranges are gone. Now they just carry a pod with a memory card, download data from all the aircraft in the ops, sync them together and voila, they see who got who. Not sure if they're able to do real time "investigation" of the fight, however. Last picture is of our aircraft, 59-1500, a real old lady. Great trip, great crew :D

Tankers are here (Sola/ENZV) approx every 6 months so I'll see if I get another flight soon..... :D

Have a nice weekend

Beautiful pictures indeed 8) (and just like Vin I'm jealous :wink:). But I can almost imagine the RNoAF-pilot in pic#10 thinking "Oh no, there's Dag again with his camera!" :P. What's the story with the Bundesmarine Sea King?

Lawman;

Pilot of 674 waved at me but I caught a bad spot in the KCs window so the shot was fuzzy. Mind you, that pod can count my nosehair and beyond and send it real time to a laptop in Cape Town.

Sea King landed just before we closed the cargo hatch and started up. They train at Voss (or Foss as they say) every year.

Best
