If I do not change the path, the installer puts the DC-8 into a subdirectory of Ecosystem\Aerosoft\MegaAirport Frankfurt\

If you have installed an Aerosoft product before it will use the same path, if you have not it will default to the standard P3d V4 add-on path. 

The recent installers allow you to install addons elsewhere. For example I have a folder named ..\Addons. Now everytime I run an AS installer it uses this path and creates a folder for each addon. In your case it seems when you installed EDDF you directly pointed the installer to the path you mentioned above. But you can correct this by simply using any other path.
