VOR approach and VPA

Recommended Posts

The approach plate (at least for Jeppesen issued)  should have a Groundspeed-to-Vertical speed conversion table usually ranging from 70 knots groundspeed to 160 knots groundspeed with the appropriate V/S for the specific VOR approaches' vertical profile (which may or may not be 3.00 degrees)

And as such, it is recommended to initiate the descent almost configured for landing (perhaps save the final stage of flaps) since you would like to have the same airspeed in order to keep the actual groundspeed in check. Compared to if you began descent at 200knots and before arriving at missed approach point you were flying 130 knots indicated.

Keep it simple :)

Or simply follow the correct vertical speed, compare the altitudes and correct as necessary as you learn it old school style in flight school Hans ;)
