EDDF 25Rz freq 111.35 not available for me

Hello together,

something seems wrong with my setup, because of the beforementioned  situation.  Freq 109.75 for rwy 25Ry and all others freq's are ok but this one. Happens to all a/c.

Any ideas? AIRAC = lastest from NAV-Data pro reinstalled, etc.

Thanks for any hints,

Wolfgang

In X-Plane, ILS frequencies are not defined by the individual scenery (such as Aerosoft's EDDF scenery), but in the nav data.

X-Plane's default data are in "X-Plane 11\Resources\default data\earth_nav.dat", and this defines for EDDF RWY 25R ILS the following:

Zitieren

 4  50.035708333    8.491461111      347    11135    25    249.575 IFNW EDDF ED 25R ILS-cat-III
 6  50.045697222    8.528327778      347    11135    25 300249.575 IFNW EDDF ED 25R GS

12  50.045688889    8.528330556      347    11135    25      0.000 IFNW EDDF ED FRANKFURT/MAIN DME-ILS

The most recent NavDataPro cycle (1712) defines the following:

 4  50.035708333    8.491461111      347    11135    25    249.575 IFNW EDDF ED 25R ILS-cat-III
 6  50.045697222    8.528327778      347    11135    25 300249.575 IFNW EDDF ED 25R GS

As you can see, both seem correct. Now the question is why one can't receive the frequency when it is tuned in the nav radios. For testing, I removed any installed EDDF scenery and placed myself in final approach of 25R (this is important; standing on the runway, you often won't receive an ILS signal at all in XP). Even then, I was not able to get a signal from 111.35. So I also removed my custom navdata -- and still not getting a signal from 111.35. I tested with various aircraft and nav receivers -- other frequencies worked, but not 111.35, albeit defined in both default data and custom data.

At the moment I have no idea what is going on.

Okay, I found the solution.

As you may know, X-Plane includes a folder "Global Airports" with airports created by the community. Apparently this folder does not just include airport buildings, but it also comes with its very own "earth_nav.dat" which brings its own outdated EDDF frequency definitions -- and apparently this file is used EVEN if custom navigation data are installed, and EVEN if "Global Airports" has the lowest scenery priority, and EVEN if "Global Airports" is disabled in "scenery_packs.ini".

The file is "X-Plane 11 / Custom Scenery / Global Airports / Earth nav data / earth_nav.dat". I removed the file for testing, and suddenly I was able to tune 111.35.

Instead of removing, you could also open the file in a text editor and edit the frequencies by hand. The best solution, though, was to contact the developer of the Gateway version of EDDF (which is actually from January 2015) and ask him to fix the frequencies, so they are correct in the next X-Plane update. Now, this has also be done already, as I now (after about 2 hours of testing :( ) noticed at the Gateway's EDDF page:

https://gateway.x-plane.com/scenery/page/EDDF

A user named "ChCole" reported that on November 12th. He wrote:

Frequency for IFNW should be 111.35, glideslope should be 3°. Currently, it's just a copy of IFWR (109.75, 3.2°), which is wrong. The incorrect data is in .\Custom Scenery\Global Airports\earth_nav.data, which unfortunately takes precedence over .\Custom Data\earth_nav.dat, which gets modified if one uses e.g. Navigraph. So one has to either has to manually edit the incorrect file or delete it. I suggest to correct the file, so that the values fit the real world. Thank you.

So ... no bug with Aerosoft's EDDF scenery, no bug with NavDataPro, but simply outdated global airport data.

Hallo Mario,

thanks a lot for your max efforts and great finding.

I edited the respective file with the new freq 111.35 and now is receiveable in the sim.

One further question please, it is also necessary to change the slope from 3.2 > 3.0 degrees but couldn`t find the appropriate column in the file. (no headers there)

Can you help there?

Thank you once more and nice greetings from river Neckar to river Elbe,

Wolfgang

Glideslope is defined by rows that start with "6". There, the 7th column defines the angle and bearing of the associated localizer. In case of EDDF RWY 25R, you want to change lines 3713 and 3714:

Zitieren

6  50.04578333  008.52829167    347 10975  25  320249.575 IFWR EDDF   ED 25R GS

6  50.04569722  008.52832778    347 10975  25  320249.575 IFNW EDDF   ED 25R GS

As you can see, the GS definition is 320249.575, meaning slope angle of 3.2° (you have to write this as 320, i.e. multiplied by 100) and bearing 249.575° (which you can simply write as it is). So, if you want to change it to 3°, you write 300249.575

You can find the navigation data file specification here: http://developer.x-plane.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/XP-NAV1100-Spec.pdf
