I just ordered a new computer with Windows Vista Pemium 64 BIT.

Is the 64 BIT compatiable with MS2004 and FSX ?

My computer specification is as follows:

Motherboard: ASUS P5K3 DDR3 dual memory,1375 Mhz

Processor :Intel Core 2 Q6600 2.45 Ghz ,quad core 1066 Mhz

Memory Ram: CORSAIR Twin3x 2048, 1333 Mhz

Hard drive : WESTERN DIGITAL 320 GB SATA II 16 MB (x2)

Graphic Card: EVGA Gforce Nvidia 8800GTX 768 MB DDR3 (84 MB/SEC.)

OS : Windows Vista Premium English, 64 BIT

What made you get the 64 bit version? Just curious. :wink:

Hi David, FSX and FS9 will work on a 64 bit system. One of the things I found out on the 64 bit system is trying to find drivers for the hardware and if ya find all the drivers how stable are they. I feel MS thought the 64 bit part would take off but to me it's not a big seller for the public. Did you order Vista? The reason I am asking is when I ordered Vista Ultimate it came with both 32 and 64 bit OS disk...Mike

I have Vista Ultimate 64 bit (German) and I have no problems with the FSX! I have the System-Builder-Version, so there is only 32 bit or 64 bit available, but it's much cheaper than the other editions´s with both versions! You can update the 32 bit SB-Version to 64 bit with additional costs, but I wouldn't do that! (And I have 4 GB of RAM)

Note: Not everything will work on 64 bit: my 4 jears old scanner (only 32 bit), my old version of a ftp-program (but I can upgrade it), ...

I choose the Windows Vista Premium 64 BIT because the processor is 64BIT and the O.S. will run much beter on it.

At this moment none of our add-ons has been tested on that, but as it runs INSIDE FSX/FS2004 I would not expect any problems. You got very solid hardware, but you have to accept a slightly lower framerate compared to a 32 bit Vista.

Having run both versions I gone back to the 32 bit for sure, not only is a bit smoother in my opinion, driver support is far better.

But most software is 32bit. That's why I'm asking. Is there an advantage to getting a 64bit system when most of the software that you utilize is still designed for use with 32bit. And as stated above, then there are the driver issues. Again, I'm just curious. :wink:

The 32 bit version is, yes.

Well, just a minor point of clarification for all the folks in here:

A 32 bit version of Vista CAN address memory that is relocated above the 4 GB boundary if the following conditions are true:

• The computer is in Physical Address Extension (PAE) mode.

• The computer has 4 GB of RAM or more (duh).

To enable PAE mode, you have to add PAE to the boot entry in the BCD file. Open an elevated command prompt. Type BCDEDIT /SET PAE ForceEnable

So there ya go! Don't know how efficient 32 bits will be with over 3 gigs of ram but it will see it...
