As you might have seen we started a Twin Otter project. We now got the first sample running in FSX and this is the time we need to finalize the project. So I like to get your comments on what we planned and to see if there is something we are missing.

Two base models

• DHC-6-100 (Short nose)

• DHC-6-300 (Long nose)

Subversions

• 100 with wheels (2 liveries)

• 100 with floats (2 liveries)

• 300 with wheels (2 liveries)

• 300 with ski’s (1 livery)

• 300 with floats (2 liveries)

Full paint kit

Single cockpit

• Suitable for both 100/300 (possibly with single additional gauge for water version)

• All FSX functions operational in VC, no 2d cockpit planned.

• Gauges in MDL and not in gauge format

• Advanced GPS system (probably KLN 90B)

• Dual Bendix KX 165A Nav/Coms radio in near perfect simulation

Three interiors

• Pax;

http://www.airliners.net/open.file/1138720/M/

• Para:

http://www.airliners.net/open.file/1084980/M/

• Cargo:

Same as Para but without the seats, benches

Triple manual

• Aircraft manual/System Manual

• KLN 90B manual

• KX 165A manual

It is probably too much work to do one, but i would love to see a Vistaliner version as well. Got a few repaints planned for the Twotter allready. ;)

Whatever... I will look forward to this one in any model, but I think there are a lot of "floaters" involved. Just don't overdo the "included paintschemes" leave something for us minority groups to play with...

This'll be a great "tourer" around Europe, the Maldives, South and Central America, Caribbean, Borneo, Java, Malaysia....

Hi Mathijs,

I hope you will not forget an amphibian version e.g:

http://www.airliners.net/open.file?id=1234288&size=L

And what about some tundra tires:

To warm up I just started fs9 again to take a ride in the good old Twin Otter but the weather in Lukla was horrible ;-)

I am thrilled aerosoft is doing an otter!

Since you're planning an "advanced gps system", probably kln-90b, can you get a gauge programmer to allow the actual programming (and storing) of flight plans, whether grounded or on the fly? It would be a shame to see yet another ehhhh kln-90, if you know what I mean! Also, FSX is in dire need of more accurate gps simulations and I don't think people should bother anymore with arcade models which force you to use the default flight planner in flight. But default database is understandably fine-the kln-90b doesn't have roads or geographical features anyway like the 94.

Or if you can't do this (although you seem to imply that you are) then give us an option not to have the kln.

Other than that, please make the start up and shut down along with everything else as realistic as possible.

In any case, if project time is a factor I'd rather see effort put into one extremely detailed variant, and a floats version of course, than a number of not as detailed variants. I think there are others who would agree, apart from just leaving room for repainters...

But after the beaver and looking at those beautfiul catalina and jaw-dropping hughes racer pictures, I'm very happy-and i'm hoping it will be as happy as can be :)

I am using the KLN both in FSX as in a real aircraft and this is by far the best rendering of this very complex instrument I have seen so far. There are bits that are inop, simply because the data makes no sense in a simulation, but flight planning, navigation, fuel planning, even the 'what if' functions are all there.

In the latest James Bond film, Casino Royale, Bond flies into the Bahamas in a float Twotter. Nice shot of it landing in the harbour amidst the water-skiiers and expensive yachts and then unloading on the tarmac.

After seeing that I would love to have it in a float version also.

I was trying to avoid jumping onto this thread, as Nick hears enough of my begging for Twotters, but unfortunately - for me - an amphib is an essential part of the package for what is, essentially, a bush aircraft.

The vast majority of my bush flying is done around lakes, then out to regional airports. What's the point in me having a bush bashing aircraft, if I can't land it at the places I need it to operate at? ;)

Cheers,

Ian P.

Hi Mathijs,

Excellent news, looking fwd to it :D Make sure there are no shared mapping (left/right wing/stabs for instance) so that I can reproduce the camo pattern of the RNoAF when time permits. The old Lago one had that issue and could not be rendered correctly. So please make sure it accepts asymmetric disruptive camouflage patterns.

Best

Excellent news! I really miss my LAGO Otter since I fly in FSX only now.

How about a cargo pod? Water bomber? Chemical toilet option?

Only joking...I'm happy with just a DHC 6 300 with wheels. I may even fly the amphibian! It would be nice to have the wingtip tanks included but it's not a dealbreaker.

If you need any additional info on the Twin Otter (which I'm sure you don't!) I have original sales brochures from 1965 and 1970 with lots of technical and performance data and customer options, avionics, interior and cockpit layouts. There is also excellent data on weights for different options (did you know that adding skis to the wheels adds 670lbs of weight?). Just let me know and I'll be glad to help.

Is it done yet? Is it done yet? Is it done yet? :D:D

Gello Mathjis,

I know I havent posted in a long time, But I have to chime in too, the Anphib version of the Twotter is the only version I flew out of all of them, so I'm glad you changed your mind :P I'm also really glad to see you guys doing a Twin Otter, great choice! Thanks and looking forward to it.

See ya, Rockitglider
