XML Format for Addons P3D V4.xx

Hi Guys

This may have been addressed at one point. I recently my sceneries for EDDF, EDDS and EDDT to the PRO version.  While I am pleased with the quality, the big question remains, why the installers are not written for the XML Format Add-on as LM recommends. Furthermore it does not give you a chance to place it in a different location.  I have tried to place most of my sceneries into a separate directory, outside the Sim and use XML format to add them . Big advantage is that I can and and re-install the simulator without having to take off the add-ons.

On that note I need to know if any Aerosoft sceneries can be moved to another directory manually and then added with XML (which is no problem for me), but I am not sure if there are associated files outside the so called ECO File directory.

Thanks

Hi Mathijs

Thanks for the very very quick reply !!

In other words install as is via the normal cfg method and don't use the Add-on method even manually, correct!

Cheers

The reason why AS didn't used the add-on.xml method yet is quite simple: it was still buggy implemented by LM. There were situations in where P3Dv4 simply crashed to desktop. Furthermore you can't manipulate the scenery order like Mathijs just wrote.

With v4.1 the CTD problem is fixed, but the scenery order problem is still open. This might cause problems depending on what add-ons you have which require a specific order.

But actually no one will keep you from creating such add-on.xml files by yourself for ALL of your add-ons. The following video explains how easy this can be done:

So if you don't mind not having the chance to manipulate the scenery order and have v4.1 installed you are free and ok to do this.

I agree with having this in a documents folder as well.  That' s a pain in the backside since the document folder also synchronizes with One Drive al the time. I bring that up in the LM forum as well. If the scenery order of has no bearings on the AS Airports, I will give it a shot.

Thanks for the quick feedback

Have a nice day and I am looking forward to the new Airbus from

For all our aircraft projects we are now using the new system btw, all problems there seem to be solved. We would like that Lockheed would easily allow you to set another base directory instead of Documents.

Yes sir!  That would be GREAT!  As it is now, I will just edit the XML file to point it to where I want to place the software.  But having it automatic would be GREAT!  Not sure if VPILOT would find models placed outside of normal locations... in fact I think I'll test that later today!

Well it is easy to tell OneDrive not to sync certain folder is it now?  But we rather like the files being backed up!
