Bussing around the world

Hello everyone, this looks like a fun challenge, so I'm in.

I was hoping to do this in the Constellation, but that would unfortunately take way too long. Instead I'll fly the route in the A32X family (changing liveries each time to an appropriate airline). Even then I might not have enough time to do the flights, but let's see what happens.

For now, this is my planned route:

Leg 8 New York - London

CYYR Goose Bay 934 nm

BIKF Reykjavik 1316 nm

EGLL London 1023 nm

Total distance: 18,778 nm

I also plan on doing this route in the Constellation, but then without the pressure of doing it in 80 days. If I find a good way of recording that online I'll drop a link (assuming that's OK). When possible I'll stream my flights on my Twitch channel: https://www.twitch.tv/japascoe

First leg completed succesfully! Somehow my flight planning got mixed up and I headed to Rome instead of Naples, but safe and sound on the ground and read for the next leg to Crete.

Approach routing gave us some great views of the city. Came in way too fast, but managed a relatively smooth touch down and stopped with plenty of runway to spare.

The big dome building on the left above the wing profile is the "Pantheon", widest dome in the world until 1436. (I live in Rome and it's lovely to see other fellow people from abroad to enjoy flying over my city! )!

Yup quite a few land-marks I recognised coming in: St Peter, Castello d'Angelo (hope I spelled that right), Colloseum and Constantine's victory arch. I've visted most of those in real life and they are very impressive

Left Rome and pressed onwards to Heraklion on Crete. Quite a popular stop-over for many participants it seems, so there was some good company at the airport bar.

Possibly cutting the final a little to short here, but we got her down in one piece.

Since I had extra time I decided to make a detour and add Aden to the list of destinations to visits. The flight from Riyadh to Aden was done with Saudi Airlines

Finally, Air Arabia took us to Muscat, from where we'll continue on to Mumbai later this week.

Sand was the theme of the last bunch of flights, looking forward to some change of scenery coming up.

As a change from the sand this flight had nearly only water to look at. Since Oman Air only flies 737s, we had to charter an A321 from Qatar to fly us from Muscat directly over to Mumbai. That Oryx logo is one of my favourite tail decorations.

Unfortunately I could only make the next leg this Friday, so technically past the deadline. In any case, Air India took us accross the subcontinent to Kolkata.

As the flight from Kolkata to Hong Kong was a bit long for me to do in a single sitting I made an intermediate stop at Hanoi. Indigo airlines got us to Hanoi, and then VietJet Air took us the rest of the way. I just couldn't resist that Minions livery.

And onward to Tokyo in two legs: Cathay Dragon to Shanghai, and then China Eastern to Tokyo. Fortunately we didn't have to flag down a steamer in the middle of the river like Mr Fogg

I haven't updated this diary in quite a while, but I did make all the flights, so I'll try to grab a quick selection of screenshots to show the highlights.

First we flew from Tokyo to Chitose with Vanilla Air

Please login to display this image.

Next up, we took an Air Asia Japan flight to Kamchatka

Please login to display this image.

Air Rossiya carried us across to far western Alaska (in a rather pretty blue livery)

American Airlines carried us to Cold Bay

Please login to display this image.

Frontier got us safely to Juneau, despite the dark and exciting final approach.

Please login to display this image.

Getting out of Juneau was even more exciting than getting in, but with Spirit Airlines we managed it.

Next up was Air Canada Rouge from Vancouver to San Francisco. This flight must have been cursed, because I had to do it three times before managing it without FSX crashing on me.

Please login to display this image.

From San Francisco it was time to head across the US. Virgin America took us the first part of the way, to Denver

Please login to display this image.

From Denver we boarded a Frontier flight again, this time for Chicago, which is where we have got to so far.

Only 4 or 5 more legs to go and we'll be home to win our bet (New York, Goose Bay, Reykjavik, and London are certain. If I have time I may make an extra stop at Edinburgh, as it is the home of two of my regular stream watchers).

If you want to come along for the home stretch, please feel free to visit my Twitch channel: www.twitch.tv/japascoe. Usual stream times are Thursday at around 20:00Z, and Saturday and Sunday at around 15:00Z, depending on how much time I have.

A big thank you to Aerosoft for organising this event. Unfortunately I didn't have the time to keep up with the forums as much as I would have liked, but nevertheless, I had a blast!
