Monday  30th October - WITT  (Banda Aceh,  Indonesia)

After some reflection I decided there was plenty of time in hand, so I would modify the flight plan and and instead of aiming straight for Singapore, we would make a diversion to Bali via Volcano Krakatoa. I have always wanted to see the famous volcano and Bail is just one of those magical places that just has to be visited.

Tuesday 31st October - WIPT (Minangkabau, Padang) to WIHL (Tunggul Wulung, Celacap, Java, Indonesia)

This was a long flight, but worth it. I really wanted to see the infamous volcano Krakatoa and discovered a feast of other surprises on the way.

What Krakatoa must have looked like in 1883 prior to the famous eruption on August 26th which is believed to have been the loudest sound ever heard by the human ear.

The eruption destroyed two-thirds of what was then the island of Krakatoa. The 1883 eruption was one of the deadliest and most destructive volcanic events in recorded history. At least 36,417 deaths are attributed to the eruption and the tsunamis it created. Significant additional effects were also felt around the world in the days and weeks after the volcano's destruction.

Dave, what a fantastic "diary"..I can see all those places in my mind, as if I was sitting in the right seat guiding you around the storms. Adding the real life as well as the default/addon sceneries really gives the diary life. Did you use an addon weather? Sorry, if you have mentioned this before but just joined the trip at VOPB.

Monday 20th November - RJTT (Tokyo Haneda, Japan)

Now things get both boring and hair raising... Money being no object, I decided to fly "as the crow flies" from Tokyo to San Francisco. We would achieve this by chartering five ships to sail to specific waypoints, each located approx. 800 nm from each other. Once each ship arrived at its assigned location, it would deploy a "sealane" of ocean-going buoys, and wait for our arrival. This is why I chose to fly a floatplane. We would spend each night on board the ship and replenish the fuel tanks bright and early to embark on the next leg.
