Erroneous flight director command bars in heading mode

I have about 2,000 hrs in the actual plane but something has me stumped.  The FCP heading mode does not seem to be functioning properly on my install.  If I select a heading that is to my right the flight director will indicate a turn to the left and vice versa so that the flight director will always turn me away from my desired heading.  Heading mode is something we use often in this plane so I would appreciate some insight into this.  I followed all install instructions and I just installed the newest version in which I experience the same problem as the original.  I am running it on FSX Steam.
