RIght Mcdu not all functions are lit up

I am trying to help a buddy get P3D and A320 Up an running I wanted him to start with the plane in turn around state but the ACFT State is not lit up it is blacked out ? what would cause this.

You are in Cold&Dark state, you need to power the electrical systems up first.
