EDLP - Manual repositioning of Navaids?

Recommended Posts

Hello there,

i own the X-Plane 10 Global edition and mainly using the Airport EDLP for my CPL/IR-preparation.

Unfortunately i noticed in the sim that the PAD DME is co-located with the PAD NDB. In reality they are seperated and the DME is located at the Tower as you can see in attached picture.

Can i manually change the location of that DME?

Also the frequency of the ILS for RW06 is wrong.

It depends on the navgiation data you have installed. These can be at two places:

VARIANT 1) Custom navigation data (such as those updated with NavDataPro or Navigraph) are stored in the file X-Plane 10/Custom Data/earth_nav.dat. Open this file in a text editor and search for "PADERBORN/LIPPSTADT NDB". You  will find two entries

2   51.62347500  008.63937500      0   354  50    0.0 PAD  PADERBORN/LIPPSTADT NDB

and

13  51.61017778  008.61865278    803 10850 130       0.000 PAD  PADERBORN/LIPPSTADT

The first one (with the 2 at the beginning) is the NDB, the second one (with the 13 at the beginning) is the DME.

The 51.62... and 008.63... are the lat/lon coordinates; the 803 is the elevation. You can change these to whatever you like.

This file also includes the ILS frequency:

4 51.62120278 008.63378056 699 11115 25 56.800 IPLE EDLP 06 ILS-cat-I

It's the 11115 here (i.e. the actual frequency multiplied by 100).

VARIANT 2) If you don't have the file X-Plane 10/Custom Data/earth_nav.dat, you have to look at the default location, which is X-Plane 10/Resources/default data/earth_nav.dat. Open this file in a text editor and do the same as described above. In X-Plane 10.50b7, I find the following entries in this file:

2 51.62361100 008.63944400 673 354 25 0.0 PAD PADERBORN/LIPPSTADT NDB/DME

and

13 51.62361100 008.63944400 673 10850 25 0.0 PAD PADERBORN/LIPPSTADT NDB/DME

As you can see, both the lat/lon positions, as well as the DME elevation (673) are different in comparison to the custom nav data I got from NavDataPro.

The ILS frequency for runway 6 in this file is in this line:

4 51.62120000 008.63377500 674 11170 18 57.133 IPLE EDLP 06 ILS-cat-I

In this file, it's the 11170. It's obviously wrong.

Solution:

As you can see, the default data are different than the custom data.

You can either edit the default data manually (but you will loose the change with each X-Plane update, except you copy the data files to "custom data").

Or you get a NavDataPro or Navigraph subscription to always have the latest official data installed (I prefer NavDataPro, because it's from Aerosoft). This is by far the most convienant solution and a basic requirement if you want to fly real procedures.
