Program will not start

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I am unable since yesterday to get the program to run properly. It does not launch the interface. There was an occasion where it was slow to open and hours later it said two instances of the program were running after I had given up on it (this past Sunday).

It started to work on Monday, but failed later that day.

I saw a similar thread regarding this topic, but it was closed. I tried everything that was recommended, but no joy. The interface does not open however I see it in the background process in the Task Manager.

I have uninstalled several times, downloading an updated copy of the fuller installer, removed the entry from the registry and disable my antivirus to be safe, yet still no joy.

Any assistance would be grateful!

Thanks

Kenny

Hi Kenny,

please try:

  1. Restart PC
  2. Start NG with Administrator Rights
  3. The profile interface should be visible - may showing the "Refresh Aircraft List" but this should take max. 2 mins.

If it fails again pls attach the ".\log\SIMstarter NG.log" file.

Hi Capt.!

Thanks for your response. Please see the log file attached. I did as you recommended, and the interface did not launch, but it showed up in the background processes as usual.

Any help you can give is appreciated.

Thanks

Kenny

Looks like NG has started once. What have you changed?

Pls try to rename your ".\data\" folder to ".\data.old" and restart NG.

I renamed the folder and nothing happens when I restarted NG. It again just shows in the background processes in the task manager.

The only thing I changed was the texture_max_load from the fsx.cfg from 1024 to 2048 and back.

Do you have multiple monitors and one's turned off? Could be SimStarter is showing, it's just off screen. Try right-clicking on the Taskbar and "Cascade Windows" That's in Win10 but other OS versions should be similar.

Hey Jerry,

No, I only have one monitor, and I checked just not to ensure that my settings reflected that, and they do.

The only thing that happens after attempting to launch the program is that it shows up in Background Processes (see attached). And it will do that for every instance that I try to launch the program without ending task. Normally it would say that the program is already running, but it doesn't.

Hello Kenny,

try a full deinstallation of SimStarter, clear the registry for SimStarter entries, delete the Simstarter directory structure, restart the pc, install SimStarter with administration rights and launch the tool with administration rights.

Marco

do you have anti virus software or firewall software installed?

  • Author

Yes I do. Do you think I should disable for the reinstallation?

if yes, try to exclude Simstarter. What are your pc specifications?

64 Bit or 32 bit.... aso

I am using MacAfee that does not all you much latitude outside of firewall access. I am running Win10 64bit.

I don't think that the problems come from the Simstarter tool. I think there must be somewhere a wrong setting/entry outside of simstarter.

Hey Marco,

I am back in business. It seems that registry was the key. I found several other files this time around and did the steps as you recommended.

Do you think it is wise to use the back up of my data directory?

Thanks to everyone for all your help!

Regards

Kenny

In general you could. But your problem sounds very strange therefore I would recommand starting with a new configuration to avoid overtaking "older problems".

Thanks for community to assist!!! I love it!!!

Hello Kenny,

nice to hear that everything is fine again. I wish you hours of nice flying with the FSX and SimStarter NG!

Greetings from EDHK,
