what's that gauge??

Recommended Posts

It does look like a LORAN receiver that I saw once on an old panel. Either that or a very, very, boxy DME, but that's a) a silly place to put a DME and B) got too many positions on the switches for a DME that boxy!

Hi,

found two other pictures of it in a Metroliner panel:

Not sure but it still looks a little bit like DME related. I think Carenado is using a similar gauge in the 182q and 206 beside the normal DME receiver.

Not the same but similar in layout:

heck, in the end I decided to make it a very basic Autopilot system, a lot like in the Maule. If it is Loran we lack the database (and to be honest compared with GPS the LORAN system is a bitch to work with). Even though AP systems on the Cat are rare, but not impossible. And with a endurance of 12 hours our customers will enjoy an AP even if it is very basic.

There's an interesting Wiki on Loran here:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LORAN#LORAN-A_and_other_systems

It seems LORAN (LOng RAnge Navigation) was a precursor to GPS, so that being the case, we could probably safely not need this guage - after all, we can use the FS9 default GPS more effectively.

In which case I'd welcome the simple AP. Or simply leave the dash bare there...

I tried to Google an image, no luck though, in the time I allocated myself.
