add on scenery.

Featured Replies

Is there some place I can go to find information on scenery?

I'm thinking of trying to improve mine but don't know the first thing about it.

thanks................................Joe / JR1Wingnut.

JR,

I use FTX GLOBAL and FTX VECTOR (commonly referred to as ORBX) as a terrain, mesh, and texture replacement for the default. I also have various REX products (REX Essential Plus Overdrive) that run seemlessly side-by-side as weather engine and non-land class texture replacements (clouds, water, sky, etc).

I do not have a high machine and found that these two products not only improved the view, but has actually increased my frame rates as well.

Add those to your research and wait for any consensus to what I said above before making a move. That would be my only recommendation.

Good Luck!

thanks for your reply.....that's Funny....................... I was looking at ORBX global and vector today. I Google best add on scenery for FSX.......And I believe they were number 1 last year.

Question...................Aerosoft has an add on for Detroit......Will they work together ?

I do not have Aerosoft's Detriot scenery, so I don't have an answer to that. I am sure another forum - either Aerosoft's Detriot or FTX/ ORBX - will be the best place to find an answer.

The Detroit City scenery will certainly work with FTX Global and FTX Vector, however the boundaries of the City scenery may not match exactly with FTX Vector. If it doesn't, it's not really a big deal, it would only be visual (and not that bad).

Note please:  All things being equal, REX Essentials will not increase frame rates. In fact, it will have exactly the opposite effect.  It's still a terrific product, though the I would strongly recommend the latest release (REX Texture Direct and Soft Clouds bundle).  REX Essentials has a weather engine that has many problems with it, so the majority of people use the REX Textures and use Active Sky Next as a weather engine.  REX will have a new weather engine coming out later this year (Google Weather Force for more info), and the new weather engine is designed to work directly with Texture Direct and Soft Clouds.  Both REX Essentials and REX Texture Direct provide terrific weather textures and airport textures (taxiways, runways, signs). FTX also provides similar (and about the same quality) airport textures so you'd want to use one or the other for those textures.

Best wishes!

Thanks DaveCT,

Point taken, but all things are not equal, especially in this environment where we all experience different outcomes. I point out what I experience and let people weigh their options.
