Tomcat books

Featured Replies

Can anyone recommend me some books about flying the F-14? I'm particularly interested in what it must have been like to fly Tomcats off a carrier.

I read Dave "Bio" Baranek's "Top Gun Days", and I'm finishing "The Last Top Gun" by Dan Zimberoff. To be honest I prefer this latter one because it gives insights in the life of a naval aviator on a carrier. Can anyone please recommend me some more books I should read?

Many thanks,

Greg

Check out 'Black Aces High' by Robert Wilcox and 'Roger Ball' by Donald Auten. If you like "'Top Gun Days" then you'll enjoy these two.

Thanks for the advice! I bought Roger Ball! On my kindle. I'm through the first two chapters and enjoying it very much.

Go to Amazon, search "Tomcat", done. Just kidding, great start and I thought I had the all normal "coffee table" versions out, but need the Wilcox,Auten books.

They just released Top Gun Days on audible. Listening to it now:)

Victory mentioned coffee table books >> "Grumman F-14 Tomcat: Bye-Bye, Baby...!" by Dave Parsons, George Hall, and Bob Lawson is a must-have. Probably the best compilation of "There I was..." stories I have seen out there.

I have the hardcover (coffee table) version, but a nice electronic version with all the pictures is available, too.

I also have all the Squadron Signal books, updated from my scale modeling days as a kid. Got "Roger Ball" for iBooks, can't put this one down.
