Issues when using tomcat

Featured Replies

Hello All,

So this is a new set of pickles that has popped up when I'm using the tomcat and it have been having a lot of crashes... up to and including the infamous "blue screen of death"... I have been getting weird messages like c++ visual run time error and when I pan through the VC the screen will start to scramble and go blurry...as seen in the attached pics

I have tried several things to include modifying my FSX.cfg to include the following:

[BUFFERPOOLS]
Poolsize=5000000
Usepools=1
[JOBSCHEDULER]
AffinityMask=254

[Display]
Panrate=200

WideViewAspect=true

[Main]
disablepreload=1

[DISPLAY.Device.AMD Radeon HD 7570.0]
Mode=1920x1080x32

I have reinstalled the visual c++ runtime library...

As for my system:

FX-8350 amd processor 4.2ghz

16 GB Ram

AMD 7570 4GB graphics card...

Any idea what Im missing here???? I think my system should be more than adequate to handle FSX and the Aerosoft Tomcat....

Continuing to expirement... This appears to be a tomcat isolated issue... VRS Superbug and Tacpack 1.4.2.7 seem to run fine... fired up FSX ran Superbug and Tacpack for a bit no issues... switched aircraft to tomcat... took a while to load... but was able to pan around the exterior view once it did... loaded weapons on to aircraft... did that fine..went into VC and scrambled screen and crash....

I'm sorry to see these issue, but no idea what could be causing them and this is the first such report associated with the F-14.

The BSoD says that it's related to the display driver, and I've seen images like that when a GPU was failing. The FSX models that we make are input in a compiler with very specific input criteria, and the compiler fails when those criteria aren't met.

I'd probably try a clean install of the graphics driver and then run repeated stress tests with a program like 3DMark. If that goes smoothly, then maybe a fresh install of FSX?

Hey Jcagle,

Thanks for the help! Sorry for the delayed response but like you I am hopefully about 10 months away from my own PhD, have a full time day job, in the reserves, and have a six month old; so appreciate how busy you are as well and the hard work you are putting into this...  That being stated after much research, head aches and many attempts; well it would appear that the gpu is overheating and failing and just so happens that higher loads are pushing it over the edge... I determined this after going through the stress tests, uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers, going through a Windows fix that checked the registry ect.... Also kept getting a windows message "Graphics driver stopped responding and has recovered"... Guess this is a well known issue when it comes to AMD - Radeon gpus and the 7570 is no exception so have reached out to AMD for their help on the matter and hoping they are willing to assist since I only bought this card back in May 2015... Otherwise after having consulted some "computer geek" friends it would appear I am going to be in the market for a new graphics card... Thanks,

Jetpilot1980

Well that's not a very satisfying explanation, but I'm glad you're able to get the problem pinpointed. Good luck with the GPU and best wishes on the dissertation.

I guess I would agree that the explanation is not very satisfying... Sadly for me while I don't consider myself computer illiterate  I'm definitely not a geek either... My two backgrounds in life are (as you might have guessed by the name) real life jet pilot (3k+ ME Jet PIC over 6k TT) and numbers geek the PhD is in Accounting and Finance... And while my dad was an IBM exec back in the day and my way older brother a MS exec both were /  are business men... But the explanation was based on advice from trusted friends... While I submitted the help form to AMD and am hoping they respond and spend some time talking to me; I am also not very optimistic to that end...   Regardless I wish you the best of luck on your dissertation as well! For me while I am enjoying the "journey" and the "opportunity to make a contribution to research in my field" I must admit part of me is looking forward to the end of the "journey" where I can sit back and relax as a practitioner...

Great! Glad to hear that you're rolling.

On the dissertation. I think you have to enjoy the 'journey' to stick it through the long and repetitive middle years, but then eventually have to out grow the learning experience and turn into a professional to make it out and graduate. My committee kicks my ass unless I am an informed expert in my topic of study with commanding knowledge in the room.

Thanks! I'm glad to be back up and running as well.... now its time to have some fun and go blow some stuff up... lol I agree with you on the PhD work it seems like it's either enjoy the work you are doing or go insane doing it and probably end up dropping out... I must admit I have enjoyed my time in my program but at times have also felt the pressure a bit as well... I also agree with the part about transitioning from academic to professional and beyond as at the end of the day the whole ontological premise of becoming a PhD is to push the limits of human knowledge in our respective fields and create new theories and new directions to explore... I know exactly what you mean by being expected to having a commanding knowledge but I can also appreciate that need for that as lets face it at the end of the day how can we call ourselves doctors and create new theories and perhaps publish or go out and profess these theories if we ourselves do not have the knowledge, background, and where with all to do so... In many ways it is a huge responsibility and threshold to cross... Luckily for me I have gotten really good at either citing previous research or academic work as well as have a great professional resume and background that I can draw from...
