  1. Guys,

Just to let you know there is a major feature on Andras Field in the forthcoming issue of PC Pilot Magazine. A review and overview of the field written by myself along with the official video on the coverdisk. Hey, maybe I should apply as Publicity Manager when I get back from my surgery next week ;)

Seriously, I hope that it helps bring more pilots to Andras Field and helps spread the word.

  2. Sorry I am not going to make it :(

    Hey Gang,

Due to an urgent family committment, Craig is not able to judge the contest until 9PM UK time, 10PM CET.

Competitors are welcome to practice as much as they want over the field until judging commences

  3. Fantastic yep it will be good and yes expect the online manager to really show you how not to do it lol just kidding . May i make a surgestion that all competitors login to the server and taxi over to the military compound thats the hanger area oppersite the apron the other side of the runway and spectators login and stay put on the aprons this way we dont have to fight through the traffic to get the competitors airborne as it will take some coordination

    well just a thought

    regards

    Craig

this is a great idea, lets do that!

  4. Hey Gang,

Just to confirm, the aerobatic event is scheduled for this saturday 14th Aug, from 7-10 European time, 6-9 UK time.

You can do one of three things:-

    1) Just turn up, watch, have some fun and fly some circuits if you want after the competition

    2) Be a competitor. Feel free to fly a plane of your choice and do some aerobatics over Andras Field and be judged as part of the competition. Entrants, please could you register by putting your name here in this thread

    3) Do aerobatics but ask not to be judged on them, if you do not want to be an official contestant.

Again, I stress this is open to everyone, no obligation to fly. Free entry to the server. It is all very friendly and informal! Everyone is welcome!

The aerobatics competition will be judged by a couple of judges to be confirmed (not me, as I am going to be helping out on the ground). Craig Hobson, our online Manager is a confirmed judge at this time.

Now for the exciting part, the winner will receive, a free download copy of the newly released Addictive Sims Pitts Special (it received the Avsim gold star and was rated alongside PMDG and RealAir for quality). As the winner you will receive this aircraft absolutely free for both FS2004 and FSX!

    See you Saturday!

  5. I can highly recommend the RealAir Citabria, Decathlon and Scout.

This may sound as a commercial, but 3 excellent planes in 5 configurations, all with easily configurable cockpits and about 50 liveries is a ton of worth for your $30/€20.

I'll be giving my Decathlon the spurs next saturday!

and don't forget the Addictive Simulations Pitts, which has just been reviewed by Avsim in the last week or so as one of the best ever aircraft in FS!

  6. Thanks for setting up this event :)

Great way have fun and lot of flying.

No doubt that this was a success.

I will be there for sure the next time :)

Some tips for future events on multiplayer server.

Make the event in a shorter time span. Like1,5 to 2 hours.

Have a plan for what to do on that particular event, like a fly in from airports around Andras Field, a short VFR flight around Bavaria. Pattern training with touch and goes, or just a BBQ-party

Make someone be responsible, and lead the "sheep" forward during the event.

This is a lot of fun, be sure to spread this on the forums and all over :)

Here are some pictures from our first event:

    Hi Jan,

It was a deliberate plan not to organise anything specific for last weekend. The reason was that it was open house to get used to the server and being online. In fact, Craig and the guys were great dealing with helping a lot of people get their equipment set up, which was a major part of the aim. As we go forward there will be more structure, but I felt this would have got in the way on Saturday, which was a come to Andras and say hi kind of event.

    all the best

  7. I was there and it was a lot of fun listening to everyone while I was there. This was my first online experience and I had some technical issues and want to thank the two gentlemen that helped me out from VAE, sorry I have already forgot your names. Now that the issues are resolved I will try to attend this weeks event. I am not an aerobatic pilot but I will be a spectator. Should be fun to watch an online airshow. My only recommendation is to post on the forum where we are supposed to meet because it is a big area.

Thanks again for a wonderful experience,

    Mike Cameron

Hey Mike, We will always meet at Andras Field, unless otherwise stated :)

    all the best

    JaneRachel

  8. Hello All,

I would like to thank all of you that attended our first event last night, which was an unqualified success. From the feedback received, everyone who was able to attend really enjoyed it!

Thank you to our Online Director Craig and the VAE people who worked very hard last night to help make things go smoothly! It is very much appreciated.

For those of you who were unable to attend, we hope to see you next week, as you are very welcome!

    see you at Andras Field

    JaneRachel

  9. Hey Gang,

For those wishing to take part in the community events, please be aware that we will be using the VAE server. If you haven't already, please register on the Virtual Aviation Experience website to get access to the server!

    http://www.virtual-aviation.org

Once registered you will need to download the pilot client software. Don't worry, it is easy and even I was able to do this successfully and connect to the server. Ray and Robert at VAE are also on hand here to help out anyone with an issue.

This is really important as you need to register and download this piece of software to gain access to the server. This is a once only thing. Once you are setup, you are good to go for every event! It is also completely free, which is my kind of price!

  10. Hi Jane,

I found your review - the issue with the Hunter on the cover - must read it again with the knowledge that you're the author (nice one!). While I was looking, I found another smaller review in one of the 'specials' which also mentioned the Piper Cheyenne from Aerosoft - I've been considering that for a while - speed and comfort?

    Hi Paul,

If I remember rightly, I wrote the Cheyenne review too. It is certainly one of the aircraft that I still like to fly. As Deputy Editor of PC Pilot I get to fly just above every released aircraft and I only keep the real standouts on my hard disk. The Cheyenne is in that list.

    all the best

  11. Ray,

I registered at VAE, got my account back really quickly (thanks for that!)

However, when I follow the instructions for connection and trying to download Squawk Win, when I click the download link in the instructions I get:-

"Sorry, this area is non-existent or unavailable"

    Any advice please?

    many thanks

    JaneRachel

  12. Hey Mathijs,

A discount for VFR Germany 3 sounds great. Already got the Twotter and fly mainly to and from the Western Isles to Glasgow/Prestwick - fabulous aircraft biggrin.gif

    Paul.

I flew the Twin Otter for PC Pilot magazine review, fell in love with it and keep on flying it! Ditto for the BeaverX, which I also reviewed. Both are very treasured aircraft in my hangar. No, I am not on commission for Aerosoft, but I have to say if you are wondering about getting the Twin Otter it is such a great aircraft to fly in the sim. Highly recommended!

  13. Bruce, thanks, but taking Bud Light to Bavaria reminds me of a nice joke by Monthy Python:

Q: What's the difference between american beer and making love in a canoe?

A: There is no difference, both is f**king close to water.

You will have to remember guys that I don't drink alcohol (I cannot get on with the taste of the stuff), so would someone please remember to bring chocolate milk for me?

    JaneRachel

  14. Guys,

The welcome event is planned for next Saturday, the 7th of August!

I will publish full details and server etc, but make a note in your diaries for this one as it is going to be fun. This is the open house welcome party for all to come and join, from 7-12pm European time (6-11PM UK time)

Formal attire is not necessary ;) but bring the plane of your choice to our virtual welcome party and barbecue!

Ole can you bring the spare ribs please?

Further details will be posted over the weekend!

EDIT: Just to confirm that this will take place on the VAE server. Registration details elswhere on this thread. You do need to register with VAE before you can use the server. Please make sure that this is done in advance of Saturday! Once registered you have unrestricted access to the server whenever you wish.

Please bring any aircraft of your choice! This is simply a social gathering. Feel free to fly circuits, just hang out or do whatever you want to do. No hard and fast rules, this is a barbecue get-together. I even hear that Mathijs and Shaun are providing the virtual steaks!

  15. I have no problem with the C-130, Vampire aircraft or any other using the field. If you can fit it on the runway safely, you are welcome to fly your warbird in! It just has to be, well, relatively old, hence vintage :) The C-130 has been around a while so it just gets away with it :)

I will plan an event for us all! In addition, I will sit down this weekend and work out a structure for this little mini club at the field :) Any ideas are gratefully received :)

    all the best

    Jane

  16. So Jane - any success on landing those babies in AF? Pictures please!!! ;)

yep landed both safely. I will do it again and grab some pics. Even with the elevation, there is stopping room for a lightly loaded heavy :)

    all the best

    JaneRachel

  17. Oh, I was asked to post the series in the events forum :-)

yep I consider these mini events. What are you doing Ole :)

thanks Bernhard, I have had terrific fun today flying around the area in the Catalina puddle jumping in and out of lakes! I really enjoy these little missions you are sharing with us all! Thank you!

    all the best

    JaneRachel

  18. Indeed mate, I remember a certain VTOL Vulcan in the past ;)

you two have now got me wanting to mess around with flying the MD11 and 747 into the field! There was I, planning a quiet night in front of the tv and look what you have done to me :))
