Well... when talking about ground traffic updates I'm not talking about updating the old ground traffic plugin but about removing the old plugin and traffic completely and rebuilding the traffic from scratch using the native XP ground traffic concept which will also benefit from the SAM AirportVehicles addon if installed (especially regarding regionalized vehicles and custom airport specific liveries).

This solution has some advantages over just updating the outdated ground traffic plugin, the XP ground traffic is much easier to implement, it's capable of drawing much more vehicles and the routing is more randomized and less repetitive - as a result the airports feel more alive and populated than before. Further, this solution will also work on Mac and Linux and won't break on later X-Plane updates as it's completely native but the downside is that users will need the SAM AirportVehicles extension if they want to see regionalzed and airport specific vehicles (without the extension there is just the default US style XP ground traffic).

Dear FlyAgi, thank you for your answer.

I strongly and firmly believed the native implementation of LR airport traffic is the reliable and sustainable way to go.

Now I just read you are embracing this way and this is a great decision from your side.

after the groundtraffic stuff is implemented

May we have some more information about that ?

I'v looked for information but I'm unable to find a clear synthetic post about it.

    - I know that Aerosoft is in the process tu update their X-Plane scenery with a new ground traffic plugin, a dev told me.

    - On the other hand I've read and seen the adaptation made. I remember I also tried to compile that (https://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/forums/topic/210452-groundtraffic-plugin-for-x1150-vulkan/) on my system, but for some unremembered reason it failed.

But it's unclear to me if there is an official release of ground traffic updated, and on top of that, available for GNU/Linux.

As a matter of fact, GT has never been available on Ubuntu for me (I removed all instances of the plugin manually), but I didn't care too much, since X-Plane offers it's own native airport traffic, to be drawn in WED. But it might be interesting for some specific sceneries.

Does anyone have the full story please ?

  3. - I just redownloaded from Simmarket, put into custom scenery (renamed folder with LGSA - xxxx, my naming convention)

    - I retried with the maximum object number, this is still like in the picture

    - Finally, I tried with a fresh X-Plane install, very bare X-Plane install, the result is still the same. Log.txt_LGSA_Aerosoft.zip

I never bothered to report it, as I was able to make my own soup from various ressources.

  4. No, It's not what I use. I've a locally highly tuned airport from the best of all worlds (I never was able to display the Aerosoft LGSA civilian terminal correctly on X-Plane 11, this scenery just natively don't work in my opinion BTW). Thank you for your offer, it won't be necessary, I think that with this forum post, we have built the reference for future users that may encounter the same shallow waters, because I believe this topic has been answered.

SAM does not want the overlay inside the airport folder. In fact the hierarchy in WED does not affect the DSF export where all the WED folders are restructured anyway into standard categories.

    Yes, that's true.

For you local installation, you can put the "soon-to-be" DSF part anywhere.

But, for the specific purpose of contributing to the Gateway, yet, the included layers have to be inside the airport (since you have to highlight it), or it will not be uploaded to the Gateway. Contributing to the Gateway is something specific.

I got something when trying this at the default LGSA which has proper taxi routes and should be fine - but it was not working, SAM told me there is nor airport information and I could not choose any parking spot.

If this happens delete the apt.cache file in the airport's Earth nav data folder. In case this happens often or with default airports delete all the apt.cache files you can find inside your X-Plane 11 folder:

    • Open X-Plane 11 folder
    • Search for files: apt.cache
    • Wait for all files to be found
    • Delete them all

The apt.cache files are cache files for speeding up SAM's startup process and will be created again on next launch so there is no risk deleting them.

    Good info.

I'm the author of the default LGSA airport now embedded in the X-Plane 11, by the way....

I'll keep the information in mind, even if I believe it was no factor here, since the problem I provided a temporary solution for, is more structural.

    Thank you for your energy.

So, I was able to get the Follow-me car at LGIR without any modification in the scenery layers themselves. No change at all in the taxi route and ramp start.

Problem : Previously, triggering the Follow-me was leading to an immediate crash to the desktop.

Solution : I opened WED and placed the original layers from the overlay DSF on top of the airport information (apt.dat soon-to-be information), and at the same root hierachy level.

It's okay on a local scenery for user-modifications.

However, moving the overlay out of the airport is recognized generally speaking as practice precluding sending the airport to the Gateway... ...since when you contribute to the Gateway scenery, you have to select the airport name and higlight it in WED, it must contain all.

So in the one hand SAM want the overlay outside, and on the other hand good practice raised from the usage of contributing to the community wants the overlay inside....

Since I have airports that I sent to the Gateway, respecting the hierarchy in trouble with SAM follow-me, I expect more troubles to arise in the future for me....

Can you send me your airports? Actually the FollowMe should not crash your sim but bad taxi routes can cause weird follow me behaviour (not showing up or showing up at unexpected positions). If I can have a look at your taxi routes I can possibly help you out with this.

For your information: The follow me depends on taxi routes and ramp starts so both have to be present in an airport to work.

A proper taxi routes network would look like this:

    Blue: Runways

Red: Taxiways close to runways (ending at runway hold positions)

    Yellow: All other taxiways

  9. I further experiment on LGST Gateway airport, no position is accpetable for the FM car to pop up. So, "SAM FollowMe is a payware extension for the free SAM base plugin and gives you a follow me and marshaller service on any X-Plane airport.", is a little optimistic.

    EDITION

At LGSA, I was able to make the plugin recognise the parking stand.

Lessons learned : in the WED Hierachy, ensure the airport data is at the same hierrachy level than the DSF overlay part, and also I did place the apt information below the DSF overlay part, reexported, et voilà.

also, my experimentation showed it depends on what WED call "Taxi Routes", I can confirm it, where you have a simplistic taxi route or no taxi route, the FM will drive straight ahead in the grass.

  10. Good day,

The Follow-me is not working at my LGSA airport.

It's not easy to troubleshoot for the user, as to what modify to make it working, since the plugin is not documented internally.

You will find attached the screenshot and then the SAM log file.

Also at LGIR, different problem, selecting a gate then requesting the FM car crashes immediately the simulator "because of plugin : AOS", says the log file....

Disappointing since following the car is mandatory at LGIR per AIP...

Those are airports that I customized in World Editor (WED), but not the taxyway layout.

    Best regards.
