Hi Ian,
Thanks for the information. I am going to try to create a mission by creating a flight from Sion to Furka Pass and back to Sion. No in between way points. A goal and return flight. All ridge lift.
Do you now anything about Flight 1 Instant Mission Maker? Would this program be of use to me?

Hi Peter,
I hope to fly this race next week. I Have been bombed for the last three weeks trying to get everything outside buttoned up for winter. we live in the sub arctic and winter comes early and hard here. There is already snow on the hills around us and we will get snow here any day now. -40 degree F. weather can hit us in October.

Nice bit of flying Mathijs. It is wonderful to fly an airplane that responds appropriately in aerobatic maneuvers!

Hi Peter,
I Forgot to mention following.
Online/Offline............................yes

Hi Peter,
My first concern is to come up with a mission to tie all the elements of the race into one package. Ian's articles are helpful but a little disheartening for a novice designer like me. I am buying Flight 1 Instant Mission Maker in the hopes it will make the learning curve a little easier for me.
Your Rules suggestions look great. I will study and make use of them.
I have given the cheating problem some thought after dealing with this issue so much in the past. I have come up with this idea and am wondering if it would work. Please give me your opinion about this concept. Often when comparing flight times for a race, most of the times will be clustered in a loose group with a few pilot times much slower than the others, and one or two pilot times much faster than anyone else. Of course the fastest one wins. We would try to fly the winners thread using Soar Track, but it would be impossible. We suspected cheating but could not prove it. In hopes of discouraging the motive for cheating, I thought I might announce as part of the rules that extraordinary fast and unreasonable flight times that are much faster than anyone else could be disqualified as suspicious.
I have to go to Fairbanks Monday-Friday for doctor appointments. I will be back on line Sat.12 Sept.
Cheers,
Don

Thank you for the offer Mathijs. This is very kind of you.

This glider raises the realism of flight simulation(especially soaring) to a whole new level. Great work and a debt of gratitude to all those involved with the development of this wonderful aircraft.

Hi All,
for those who had not got already notice of it:
WinchX! 1.0 is released and available at:
http://www.luerkens.homepage.t-online.de/peter
Please notice, that due to the strong interest I have (temporarily) forwarded the major downloads to an ftp-server. If you have problems, try to flush your browser cash, and if that does not work give me a note here.
best regards,
Peter
Peter,
Go check out the new SOAR Upload/Download section.

Thanks for the information guys. I was able to get a very usable contour map from Google Maps. I merged four individual maps to get a mosaic. Now I just need to label the important features and identify two reference points for FS Maps callibtation.

Just bought and installed Lukla X and it is very, very nice!
I would like to find a better map with higher resolution of the Lukla X coverage area than is in the pdf manual. A topo map in digital format that could be used with FS Maps is what I need. I want to record soaring flight traces to the summit of Everest. Any suggestions?

Well look at this in a few weeks, but I make no promises.
Mathjis,
Six and a half months later and waiting. Any progress here or have you decided to let this masterpiece die?

If you want to follow along on the development of the C4 flight computer go to this thread.

Hm, early July there was the rumor that there would be new movement and we would know more withing a week. Well its nearly early August now and no news in sight. Man, this Glider package is like a soap opera isn't it.
Not a rumor. That comment was from Mathijs himself. It is unreal how long it takes to complete FSX projects. They are all really labor intensive. I hope Microsoft does not release a new edition of MSFS any time soon and developers have to start over again. I think that would sink just about everybody.

Why do you want motor glider, lukla has sloped runway
I like the Stemme and its versitility.

Guys,
32,557 viewer (more than the F-16....) cannot be wrong, .....
This does not supprise me. Soaring is one of the most beautiful and satisfying forms of flight and is well suited to FSX. You will have access to really good scenery, and everything related to soaring can be functional. You can create ridge lift, and thermals (with Simprobe and Cumulus X) anywhere in the world. Everything in the glider from navagational aids to ejecting water ballast can be fuctional. You have tow planes. Soaring task are well suited to the "Mission" concept of FSX.
Yet there are no payware sailplanes on the market to my knowledge. Aerosoft's Discuss will be the first. I hope Mathijs will consider other sailplane/motorglider projects in the future as they are sorely needed.
I am presently flying a Stemme S-10 motor glider from the Fs 2002 era and patched through three versions of Microsoft flight sims so it will function (sort of) in FSX. I use the Stemme a lot because it will do things no other motor glider can do.
I can't wait to soar the Discuss out of Lukla X and up the south western slopes of Everest!
Cheers,

Yes, Alaska is very big, almost 1/3 the the size of the contiguous United States and 99.9% of it is not on the road system.

I totally agree with you Don, in my opinion it's the best off airport plane there is.
Do you know about Alaskan Winds?
http://alaskanwinds.romanesca.com/welcome.html
If you do most of your flying in the bush you may be interested.
It's a small community of friendly bush pilots, flying mostly in Alaska.
I only joined recently and can thoroughly recommend it.
Didg.
Thanks for the info. I will check it out. I live in Central, Alaska. It is a little bush community of about 80 year-round souls and is barely on the road system. We are located about 35 miles from the Yukon River.

I too am very interested in a FSX version of the Super Cub or at least a workable patch for it. I do almost all of my power flying in the bush and nothing compares to the slow flight capabilities of the Aerosoft Super Cub. I can get into and out-of places that not even an ultralight will survive.

If one is to insert an image as part of ones signature, what is the max. width and height (in pixels) alowed?

Go to Wolfgang Piper's site. He has many gliders and they all function in FSX with SP2.

Hello Mathijs Kok,
Has anyone responded to your request for someone to design your onboard computer? If not let me know as I have some other ideas as to who might be able to do the work.

I would like to suggest the Stemme S10 Motor Glider as project to do. It is one of the most unusual aircraft in the world. It would appeal to power pilots and glider pilots. It would fit very nicely with your Lukla X Everest scenery and when combined with "Simprobe" (freeware) the Lukla X sceneery becomes ridge soaring country. The Stemme S10 has a service ceiling of 30,000 ft. The Stemme is also the holder of several world soaring records. Although the Stemme appears to be a modern airplane, the initial design work occured 30 years ago and the first prototype flew 22 years ago.

This is a great airplane. I am sure you would do a great rendition of it and it would be a very popular item.
Note: I can post these images in larger format if there is any interest.
