  1. I keep a log of everything I install, so if something goes wrong I have a better chance of fixing it. This morning I installed this marvelous scenery. Since then, whenever I reload FSX, it rebuilds the scenery database. I was puzzled by this, but looking at my log I said, "Can't be anything else." So, I deselected the two new folders in the FSX scenery library, it rebuilt the scenery database (which it should do whenever you make changes like this), and I exited the sim. I restarted FSX: would it rebuild the scenery database again? Moment of truth... No, it didn't! Coincidence? I exit FSX and restart it. No, it doesn't rebuild the scenery database. Ergo, it is something in the two folders I just disabled.

    What is it in the two scenery folders that Wasserkuppe installs that is triggering FSX to rebuild the scenery database every time the program loads? I don't see any files in those folders changing since they were installed, so I'm puzzled.

  2. I had this for FS9, and missed it in FSX. Thank you!

    Is there a way to set the "VFR Germany 1 modulation" manually? I have that product installed, but I've moved it to a different hard disk.

    UPDATE: Two things I notice right away:

    (1) the new photos are much greener than the old VFR 1 colors (nice)

    (2) Gliders circling in the air! I don't know if that's a first, but it's the first time I've seen it in the sim. As the 5-6-7-8s say in Kill Bill, Vol. 1: "Woo hoo, woo hoo hoo!" See http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showthread.php?t=39735&p=447377#post447377 for a couple screenshots.

  3. If there is no path, then you need to copy the images to the folder where the FSM files are located.

    Thank you, Thomas.

    There was one more hurdle, which I'll describe here in case someone else had the same problem. I put my exported .fsm file in the same folder with the image files, but I still got two sets of error messages. One was looking for the various .tif files that ship with FSMap. Since they were already installed, I just ignored those errors and kept going. The second error, when I got to my new files, was "permission denied." I tried fixing the permissions directly, but that didn't work. What did work: I copied the folder with my image files -- the ones to be imported -- and the .fsm file that I generated earlier to a FAT32-formatted USB drive. I don't know if the FAT32 formatting was important -- it's dumber about permissions than NTFS -- but it worked. I loaded FSMap, clicked on Manage Maps and then Import Maps, then selected the folder on my USB drive. I still got the first error (looking for the Europe .tifs that come with FSMap) but the rest went fine. I can now use my old collection of calibrated maps. Thank you.

  4. The best is to check if the map location in the .FSM export file is correct. Simply open it with Notepad and check the "Filename" property. Make sure that the path to the map file is correct.

    Thank you, Thomas. I opened up MyMaps.fsm in Notepad and there is no path. For example:

    [MAP.409]

    Name=Airport - NZAA

    Filename=NZAA.gif

    Region=Asia

    MapType=0

    ...

    Which folder does FSMap expect the image files to be in, relative to *.fsm?

  5. Please delete or rename the following file to reset your map configuration: "Documents\FSMap\Maps.dat".

    Thank you, Thomas. Now, how do I get all of my added maps back? I tried exporting them from the old install, but when I import the resulting file, it generates "file not found" errors for all of the map image files.

  6. I recently moved from Windows XP to Windows 7. I have reinstalled FSMap, and I have a lot of maps installed. Problem: FSMap is looking for my maps in the old documents folder: "C:\Documents and Settings\User_Name\My Documents\FSMap\1.0\Maps".

    Is there an .ini file or registry key that I can edit to make FSMap look in a different location?

  7. From the front page: " 25% Discount: Happy Columbus Day 2009! Monday, 12.10.2009

    In the US they call it Columbus day (in other parts of the America's it has different names) and we like to celebrate that festive day with a serious discount of some of our products for 24 hours. We picked the products with most links to the US. So from this moment and for the next 24 hours the F-16 X, Manhattan X, PBY Catalina X, Seahawk X and the three US Cities X sceneries are all discounted by 25% (download products only). 8. what is "Columbus Day"? never heard that in Austria

    The Oracle (a.k.a. Wikipedia) explains, "Many countries in the New World and elsewhere celebrate the anniversary of Christopher Columbus's arrival in the Americas, which occurred on October 12, 1492 in the Julian calendar and October 21, 1492 in the modern Gregorian calendar, as an official holiday. The day is celebrated as Columbus Day in the United States, as Día de la Raza (Day of the (Hispanic) race) in many countries in America, as Día de las Culturas (Day of the Cultures) in Costa Rica, as Discovery Day in The Bahamas, as Día de la Hispanidad and Fiesta Nacional in Spain, as Día de las Américas (Day of the Americas) in Uruguay and as Día de la Resistencia Indígena (Day of Indigenous Resistance) in Venezuela. These holidays have been celebrated unofficially since the late 18th century, and officially in various countries since the early 20th century."

  9. I was leafing through the latest Computer Pilot magazine and, as usual, Aerosoft has an ad. In the corner it says, "Watch out for special offers on Columbus Day!!!" Did anything come of this?

  10. Lately I've been flying on and off ships (helicopter pads and carrier flight decks). Is it possible to display ship traffic in FSMap, and if it's not, might I suggest this as a possible feature for a future update?

  11. When I try to prime the left engine by right-clicking the prime button (remember, right-clicking sends the button down), it jumps back up to center position. If I play with it, up and down, it will work after three or four tries, but the primer switch seems not to LIKE staying in the down/left position. Is this a bug or a feature?

  12. Topographical Charts for Papua New Guinea (PNG)

    http://library.avsim.net/search.php?SearchTerm=papua+charts

    The download is in three parts, about 35mb each.

    Description: Calibrated for FSMap, but scanned images can be used in other map software, such as FSM Moving Map (FSMMM) by Rana Hossain. Chart source: Topographic Maps U.S. Army Map Service, Series T504, original scale 1:250,000, date 1964-. Courtesy of the University of Texas Libraries, The University of Texas at Austin. Missing: I could not find equivalent charts for New Britain; for this island, a lower-quality chart is included.

  13. I heard from some customers that it affects the display of autogen all over the world. If I remember right there comes something like a manager with it where you can deactivate the autogen changes it made, right?

    Sascha

    I'm not sure what, if anything, it does to default.xml. I tried inserting the lines from a previous install of VFR Germany 2, but that didn't help. I ended up uninstalling VFR Germany 3 (but keeping my files on the other disk), reinstalling to my default FSX directory, then changing scenery.cfg so that it points to the previously-installed files on my other disk. I've only had time for one flight so far, but I am now seeing building autogen. That is: it seems to be working correctly now.

    I did not mess with FTX at all, so I think the problem was unrelated to anything Orbx. The real problem, I am guessing, is that I installed the scenery outside of my FSX folder, and therefore the installer couldn't find default.xml to modify it.

  14. Is it possible that the installer didn't make any additions in your autogen/default.xml or that this isn't available or influences by FTX Australia?

    Thank you, Sasa.

    1. I am running FTX.

    2. I installed VFR Germany 3 on a separate hard drive, not the one with my main FSX.

    What changes do I need to make in default.xml?
