  1. One last question that I have encountered. When I select the Airport (PANC), when I accept the name that appears in the location is "Lake Hood Strip". Based on the sample images, the airport is displayed correctly, but I find it a bit strange this behavior in the selection menus. What you also will happen?.

Hey Ignacio, it's normal, it has happened to me. It's actually in another thread as well. It's harmless, what I do is just reselect the spot again and it switches over. The only thing that can happen, but only happened once to me, ATC directed me to Lake Hood's runway 13 from a PANC parking spot, but that was before I did the re-selecting trick. Hasn't happened since.

  2. Hey Shaun, just did a flight starting from gate A 10, it's behind the Era Aviation building. The first time I selected it it showed Lake Hood as the chosen airport, but once I did what I said before, just re-selecting the spot, it read Stevens Anchorage. I just assume it's the proximity, the ATC blocks must overlap just a small amount. It's nothing huge, and easily remedied, and thought I'd share in case anyone else experiences this.

  3. Who is this directed at dmbusmc???? A proper name would assist in your signature rather than d=dumb m=me b=believes u=you and I woulnt go into the other 3 as I will get booted by mathijs :chairfall_s:

Well, it was for Ignacio, the beginner of this thread. I would have thought that was obvious, seeing as you, James A, don't seem to be having any issue. Sorry for any mix up. I'll give you a hint on the last four, stand for United States Marine Corps. Perhaps you're familiar? :D

  4. If you have cars enabled they seriously hit fps, so I suggest turning those off if they are on. Also, what aircraft are you using? If this is in the default 172 THEN you've got problems, but if it is in a PMDG or Captain Sim it's a different story.....I have about the same system as you and I take a hit using complex aircraft in bad weather, though I've never been down to 5 fps, and all sliders maxed, 30% Airline and 25% GA with MyTraffic Pro, but, I still get around 10-15 on final approach for either of the 7's or 14 as opposed to 25-30 in the Katana or anything from Carenado.

  5. Bought PANC for FS9 a couple of days ago. Installed per instructions and activated with Launcher. All seems well except when I select PANC in the FS9 airport selection menu, it shows Lake Hood. Understand from the manual this may occur. When I start the sim I am at Anchorage but ATC commands are for Lake Hood. Is there a way to make sure that when I start at PANC the ATC is for Anchorage?.

    Regards,

    Joe Esposito

Hey A320DRIVER, had the same thing happen for certain PANC spots (forgive me Shaun, I don't remember exactly which ones they are, I'll see if I can find an example in the coming days).

It's nothing big: if you are doing free flight, you select a parking spot to start at at PANC. Click ok. Then, look at the Select Airport box, and see if it says Steven's Anchorage or Lake Hood. If it says Lake Hood, click Select Airport again, then confirm PANC is highlighted, and the correct parking spot is selected, and click ok again. It should say Steven's Anchorage now, and ATC will direct you to one of its runways. This same process applies if you use the FS flight planner.

This worked for me on both counts, and it has only happened twice to my knowledge, just a matter of clicking the mouse twice more, so no big deal. Hope this helps.

  6. By now I expected we would be discussing cost ratios of various engine settings, the TBO of the Rotax versus the lower overhaul cost and the more complex innards of the menu options and their implications for `proper` flying, with a large number of users who have used, learned and applied themselves to the product they purchased.

We started with some excellent dialogue about the relative merits of the Rotax engine, and I have several hundred hours behind different variants, so feel somewhat qualified to have the discussion...

    Just not again.

And therein lies the rub: The presence of the repetitive has occluded the interesting; diluted the discerning; obfuscated the skillful.

I have not in fact seen that discussion. I didn't even try to look for it. Why? Because you offered it as something you wanted to discuss, making it seems as if it has not yet been discussed, as you can see in the above top quote. So, trying to be nice and start a reasoned and educated discussion, I offered that we could start one. And then you turn around saying oh, it's already been discussed and will be repetitive and boring.

So you do what you've done this whole discussion, used the same structure of beating around the bush, throwing in your best vocabulary words, and not actually seeing the point or attempting take make things more interesting by joining me in a discussion, just finding a way out of it. So, in reality, you have become the very type of person you complain about, repetitive and boring.

  7. And THAT'S exactly what I'm talking about. Sure, we can get into the deeper more technical information, but yes, it is already here, and indeed elsewhere (the manual, Google, and even Diamond itself has a free .pdf of the DA20 manual on it's website). All I'm saying is instead of shooting down and basically making a fool out of someone who is new and inexperienced like this user was and admitted to be, you can just give some basic information and be nice enough to attach the links to the posts you refer to, and also say "hey, in the future you can also just type in the search box what you are looking for, and these links will get you started." That's all. It's nice and sincere and gets your point across that they should look for themselves while also providing a starting point for them to begin perusing the forums on their own. Yes, it is repetitive, I definitely won't argue with that, I've been around and I've seen it and it does get cumbersome and annoying to see the same information spread over the forum in different ways with the same basic answer/area of answer.

As for the magic button to make users more sophisticated and more self-sufficient, I promise you I wish the same thing, in life as well. But it's not going to happen, so we have to put up with it. Either way, the point is to have any questions you have answered, or any topic you want discussed, and just telling them to look for themselves is wasted words, and gets nothing done.

I would gladly talk anytime about cost ratios with power settings, how the add-on relates to typical usage in real life, including TBO's, ESPECIALLY the Rotax. You can't deny an engine with a 1500+ TBO. Why not throw in a talk about the competition with Continental's and even Lycoming? All other stuff aside, I'm down to throw on some decent discussions if you are.

  8. So is this Snave guy a paid employee of Aerosoft or any developer of the Katana? Or a volunteer? Let's hope a volunteer, I would be deeply disappointed if anyone would employ someone so obtuse and unnecessarily rude to provide support to their paying customers. Yes, information on this is indeed spread out through the forum, and can be researched elsewhere online, but instead of taking a whole paragraph trying to berate and belittle paying customers why not just spend the words and posts on just answering the questions and leaving it at that? There's no need for what you are doing, none at all. I've seen this from you on several forum posts and it's ridiculous, because, yes, do not fear sir, I actually do search extensively and fully read posts pertaining to questions I have. Calm down and if you are going to say anything, just answer the question asked. Easy. Like this:

@ fjsflight, if you are still looking for some answers and still checking the forum- Anytime carb icing conditions can be expected, just turn on the carb heat. If you are getting typical carb ice indications, like a gradual loss in power, turn on the carb heat. Just make sure that you monitor your engine instruments and more specifically the temperature as to not exceed the red. If you intentionally fly into icing conditions you know you will need the carb heat, but keep in mind what else you will lose, as a Katana is not meant for flight into known icing conditions. As was said before the Katana doesn't have pitot heat, so that will ice over quickly and you will not get an accurate airspeed indication. If you accidentally fly into icing conditions, same applies, but you want to consider doing a 180 and exiting the conditions or descending. To help with carb icing try doing a high power descent, just watch your airspeed and temperature gauges. So, to answer your original question yes, you can turn carb heat on early, but you need to be careful and monitor your systems as to not exceed anything.

fjsflight hope this helps, I have quite a few hours in a real Katana and am a CFII so if you have any other questions just ask.

  9. Title asks it all! I'm picking out a new scenery to buy and am interested in Corfu X, but noticed it is not on my AES activation list (running 2.13). Will there be an update soon to add it to the list? I love having AES wherever I go, and it really does play a part in my consideration of scenery purchases. Let me know when you can, thanks!

  10. Hello dmbusmc,

This is known issue and has been mentioned many times on the forum and the reason given as to why it is happening.

But you are doing nothing wrong.

Yes, I found I was looking in the wrong forum, and in the end posted in the wrong forum. Sorry about that. I read up on it and now I just leave the FLEX TEMP blank in the MCDU, which works fine, but not the same without having that cool and realistic FLEX option. But, as I love absolutely everything else about this aircraft, I can more than live with it. Can't wait for the professional edition! Thanks.

  11. Having an issue on takeoff. I properly load the aircraft all according to the manual, full checklists, use the load manager, and create takeoff sheets. When I am lined up and ready for takeoff, I advance the throttle to either FLX or TO/GA, but the N1 always stays around 84%, no matter which setting I choose, and it stays at only 84% until I rotate and gain a positive rate. Once past rotation, it will advance to around 94%. The problem is that if I use a shorter runway, say around 2200m, I'm rotating at the opposite numbers- not good, nor accurate. The autothrottle properly engages when I advance the levers forward, and the flight director is on. The MCDU is properly loaded, TO config is good and checked. So, I'm not sure what may be wrong. Any insight?

  12. Hi, I wish to update Andras, and when I sign in and go to support, I cannot download the new full build. When I click on the "update to 1.17 full build", it gives me a Q and A. I also cannot download the 1.17 to 1.19 update, or the fix along with it. When I click those nothing happens. Its been a while since I've updated, my current version is 1.10, so I'd really like to get this working. I couldn't find the old Andras specific forum....was it taken down? My first thought to check there, I remember it helped me a while ago. Anyways, let me know about the update, thank you.

  13. Thank you again for the response Shaun, I just wanted to see any other options others may know of. I ended up using AICarriers 2, which works great. I'm also looking into the payware you suggested, it's really thorough with tons of customization available, thanks again!

  14. Hey everyone, I recently got Aerosoft's Seahawk package with Shipyard 2, and am making some fleets using it. I was wondering if anyone knows of any payware or freeware, other than AICarriers 2, that can place a carrier anywhere I would like, or can someone point me in the direction of a forum or website describing how to do it? Thank you!

  15. Well, I've tried to re-install with my antivirus software disabled, and it doesn't work properly. It goes from where you click begin installation straight to installation complete, with nothing changed, added, or installed. I believe I need to uninstall what I have first, but cannot find any uninstall utility on my computer. I've looked in the Start menu under "aerosoft", I've looked in the "aerosoft" folder in the FSX main folder, and in the aircraft's folder itself, and can't find it. So if it's hiding elsewhere please let me know so I can uninstall then reinstall the software. Thank you.

  16. Hi, I recently purchased your Seahawk package, instant download, for FSX, from fspilotshop.com. I really want to use Shipyard 2.0, but when I tried to install the program, my McAfee software found a trojan in it. The aircraft installed perfectly, but Shipyard did not. I would really like to use the Shipyard software, and am wondering if you can help me get it. I have already submitted a support ticket to fspilotshop.com, and am awaiting reply. I have a feeling they may just refer me here, and on top of that I think it would be best to try to get the software from the manufacturer. For proof of purchase, my order number from fspilotshop.com is Order #301699. Please let me know if you can help resolve this issue for me, thank you.
