  1. For the very last leg I took the same machine with which I started this journey, my favorite Baron 58 to go from Liverpool to London City Airport EGLC. What a long strange trip it's been Leaving the english coast for a nice and calm last ride. And flying into London after sunset. So - that's it - my journey around the world is done.
  2. This leg is the last but one for me. A good opportunity to take one of my favorite birds - a Beech Bonanza V35 to get from Dublin to Liverpool EGGP, the airport named after the man who invented Peace on Earth. Unfortunately it didn't catch on... Leaving Ireland late in the afternoon And touching the english coast at sunset.
  3. The last few legs I am taking the smaller machines. From EICK to Dublin EIDW it is a Columbia 400 just fine for a relaxed tripe across Ireland. Heading north west away from the clouds. And arriving at sunset just in time for a nice Guiness at Dublin.
  4. Time is running out so I had to hurry a bit and do the next legs in one day. First was TXKF to LPPD, Joao Paul II Airport at Ponta Delgada on Sao Miguel Island, part of the Azores. This was a longer trip so another opportunity to use a b ig one, a 747-400. Getting ready for the trip early in the morning. And getting ready to land somewhere after noon. Directly changing planes I continued to Cork Airport (EICK) which is the closest airport to former Queenstown which now is named Cobh where Fileas Fogg came in. For thisa I took a McDonnell Douglas MD-82. Off from the Azores in the afternoon... And just in time for dinner flying into EICK.
  5. Off to the last stage! First leg: KJFK - TXKF L.F.Wade International Airport close to Hamilton on the Bermudas. It was time to take the risk and use a quite unreliable A320 NEO. Due to some time constraints I had to hand over to my co-pilot for the approach and landing. Thanks to Flo for his good job! Above the clouds... My great co-pilot's landing approach at TXKF
  6. Last leg in this stage: KIAG to KJFK. A great opportunity to test the Fairchild-Swearingen Metroliner III a brand new member in my fleet. Say goodbye to Niagara Falls... ...and be welcome at John F. Kennedy International Airport. And this completes this stage San Francisco to New York. Looking forward to the final round.
  7. Next leg: KDTW to CYXU. Thought it was a funny idea to take a rest at London on my way to London :). This time I took a Robin DR401 for this short trip. Fair weather on departure from Detroit. And taxi to the parking position at cold and windy London Airport. Next on the list: CYXU to CYHM. The plane for this flight was a Piper Turbo Arrow IV. Fighting against the wind and the snow. But a safe landing in the end at John C. Munro International Airport at Hamilton. Last leg for the day: CYHM to KIAG. Time to take a DHC-2 Beaver to make the last few frosty miles. Looks like winter around here... Now it's time for a hot beverage at Niagara International Airport.
  8. Next on the list: Denver KDEN to Chicago O'Hare KORD on a Embraer 190. Unfortunately I missed the POD as me and the crew had a Pizza in the back ;). So I moved on to my alternate airport which was Detroit Metropolitan Wayne Country Airport KDTW. Quite a bit like winter at Denver while warming up the engines Fortunately much nicer weather on approach to Detroit.
  9. Next stage: San Fransico to New York. First leg on my plan is KSFO to KDEN. Bird of the day: A Gulfstream IV Jet which took me a while to get comfortable with. But now we respect each other Starting early in the morning while the sun slowly came up over San Francisco Bay. Enroute to Denver Stapelton International Airport at an elevation of over 5000 ft.
  10. Last Leg in this stage: CYVR to KSFO. It was time for a bold footprint so I took my old B747-300 which burnt more fuel than all other planes together. After some trouble with the navigation system finally enroute southbound And then the last turn on approach to San Franncisco Intl. So this is completing this stage from Tokyo to San Fransico.
  11. Next on the list is Vancouver Intl. CYVR. This time I took a faster bird a DHC-8 Q300 (Dash 8). Not the nicest weather on departure from PAJN. Not too nice either on approaching CYVR.
  12. Moving on from Kodiak PADQ to Juneau Intl. PAJN in a weather proof DHC-6 Twin Otter Tundra Version. Not the fastest but took my safely along the Gulf of Alaska. Getting ready for departure in the first light of the day at Kodiak Airport And the final approach at Juneau 5 hours of flight later.
  13. The next leg from Atka was Cold Bay Airport PACD. This time I decided to take a more reliable plane. The choice was a LET L-410 equipped with a GNS430 Navi. Good to be above the clouds. And thanks to ILS I was able to come down alive with minimum visual range on approach. In orde to escape this fog hell, I decided to take the next leg immediately: PACD to Kodiak PAQD. The aircraft of choice was a Cessna 177 Cardinal II with fixed gears. Nice little bird. Had the chance to take some spectacular views of the mountains peeking throughthe clouds. And safely home after a tricky landing on an uphill runway at Kodiak Airport.
  14. Next on the list was PAAK (Atka), a small strip on one of the Aleutian Islands in the middle of nowhere. I took a Learjet 35 to be able to get some miles behind me. In retrospect this combination was a bad idea, and it evolved into the worst flight I had along this trip. Due to bad weather conditions an very low hanging clouds I was hardly able to land this unruly bird. A miracle that I brought it down in one piece... In addition, due to a Volanta bug when crossing the dateline my flight tracking log looks a bit corrupted this time. Just ignore the ugly green line... In flight - when everything was still ok. And after the miracle on the runway in PAAK.

  16. Next leg was UHSI (Iturup) to UHPP (Yelizovo) on Kamchatka Island. It was time to try the Cessna Citation-X for the first time. No good autopilot though, kept going into overspeed and going up and down to compensate. My stomach went upside down 😕 Enroute to Kamchatka. And epic fly-in into UHPP at sunset.

As there is some more time planned for the next stage Tokyo to San Francisco, I decided to take the northern route touching Kamchatka Island and doing some ice shelf hopping to Alaska the down across British Columbia and then the U.S. west coast to San Francisco. Hope I can make it The first leg is Tokyo RJTT to Sapporo RJCO. For this I took a Cirrus SR22 GTSx. Unfortunately this was the last flight of this little machine, because somehow it ended up in a fire ball on the runway. What a pity. Some sightseeing of Tokyo with a clear mind and a happy heart. Arrived at Sapporo - oops - hot landing. As I am planning to take many shorter legs I continued after lunch to UHSI (Iturup) on a DHC 6 Twin Otter equipped with a Garmin G1000 (malfunctional unfortunately) Fair weather over Hokkaido Island And an extremely rough approach at Iturup.
  18. Just noticed that I was missing the summary of the last stage. So here it is: Hong Kong to Yokohama resp. Tokyo.
  19. And the final leg took me from Nagasaki to Tokio Airport which is close enough to Yokohama to complete the stage. This time I took a A320-200 which I have never flown before. Apart from some problems with the autopilot I finally made it by landing manually at RJTT. Leaving Nagasaki on a jet plane... At the gate at Haneda Airport.
  20. Moving on - next stage Hong Kong to Yokohama. For the first leg from VHHH to Shanghai Pudong ZSPD I took a S550 Citation II. And this was my first flight with this bird. And it was good... Eager to take off from VHHH runway 25R. And on approach to Shanghai three hours later. As there was no time to loose the next leg needs to be completed on that same day. So I jumped into a Cirrus Vision SF50 to make it to Nagasaki Airport RJFU. Leaving Shanghai in the afternoon. And arriving at Nagasaki quite after sunset.
  21. Today's flight was the last leg in this stage: Singapore to Hong Kong. The right plane for this was my B737-800 despite of many flaws it took me (almost) safely to my destination. Some trouble with the FMC forced my to create a custom approach. Ready for departure at WSSS. And on the ground at VHHH. And this, after all, completes stage four.
  22. After some days of recreation at Kuala Lumpur I was taking my G1000 equipped C 172SP to move on to Singapore. It was quite a difficult start as I was trapped in a thunderstorm for the first few miles, but after this this was an easy flight to WSSS. Eager to take off from WMKK... And safely landed at WSSS in the last light of the day.
  23. Next leg in this stage: Bangkok to Kuala Lumpur. This time I took a Beechcraft King Air C90B which carried me safely through calm and peaceful flight. Off from Bangkok under nice weather conditions And approaching Kuala Lumpur after 3 peaceful hours of flight
  24. So the next stage is on. The plan was to go from Kolkata to Bankok in a PA34 Seneca V. Unfortunately I used far more fuel than expected so I had to take a break at Dawei in Myanmar. It was literally a "break" though, as all fuel was depleted some 10 nm from Dawei Airport and I had to take an emergency landing. In fact it was more emergency than landing. Lucky me I could get an elephant ride to Dawei where I was able to talk some farmer into lending me his Embrear 200 Ipanema in exchange for taking some of his "rice" bags to Bankok. I better not asked and took the chance, so I safely arrived at Bankok Suvarnabhumi Airport after all this trouble. I hope they have beer here Full of confidence and ready for departure at VECC On my way still not anticipating what was going to happen later... So after changing horses going from VYDW to VTBS Giving all it had to give on departure... And a smoggy approach at Bankok...
  25. Due to some timely contraints I had to hurry up a bit this time. So I completed the two legs of the next stage within one day. Leg one: Mumbai (VABB) to Allahabad (VEAB also known as VIAL) in order to exactly follow Phileas Fogg's route as closely as possible. It was time to take my cool Evektor Outback EV55 for this flight. Departure from Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport Nice sightseeing inlcuded. Thanks to fair weather during the whole trip At Allahabad I changed the plane and took a Piper PA46-500TP Meridian for the rest of the stage to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport at Kolkata. Going straight to the sky from VEAB And safely arrived at VECC. And this completes the third stage of my journey.
