Leg 7 OYRN - OOSA Alternate OESH Am heutigen Morgen zeigte sich Mukalla von seiner sonnigen Seite über der Stadt fanden sich keinerlei Wolken und so versprach der kurze Flug entlang der Küste nach Salalah im Oman problemlos zu werden. Während Mr Fogg im Hotel sein ausgiebiges Frühstück genoß und Mr. Passepartout noch einige Besorgungen auf dem örtlichen BAsar erledigte begaben sich meine Crew und ich bereits zum Flugplatz, wo wir mit den Fleugvorbereitungen begannen. This morning, Mukalla showed us its sunny side with no clouds over the city, so the short flight along the coast to Salalah in Oman promised to be trouble-free. While Mr. Fogg enjoyed his extensive breakfast in the Hotel, Mr. Passepartout did some errands at the local BAsar, my crew and I already went to the airfield, where we started with the flight preparations. Entlang der Küste flogen wir dann weiter und erreichten nach ca 65 Minuten Flugzeit den Luftraum des Oman. Nun wurde es auch schon wieder Zeit in den Sinkflug zu gehen, da unsere DC6B sehr schwer Geschwindigkeit abbaut und wir rechtzeitig vor Erreichen des IAF die Landekonfiguration hahergestellt haben wollten. Aufgrund der Lage des Flughafens und der ihn umgebenden Berge entschieden wir uns für die Landung in Salalah/OOSA für die Rwy 25. Due to the location of the airport and the mountains surrounding it, we decided to land in Salalah/OOSA on Rwy 25. Nach 01:35 Std. und einer zurückgelegten Flugstrecke von 395Nm erreichten wir um 1212Z den Flughafen. After 01:35 hrs and a covered flight distance of 395Nm we reached the airport at 1212Z. Nach dem Deboarding fingen dann die Mechaniker auch sogleich mit der Wartung unserer Motoren an und füllten vor dem langen Trip über den Indischen Ozean nach Bombay / VABB alle Betriebsflüssigkeiten auf. Ich werde mich kurz frisch machen und dann die Stadt erkunden. Morgen früh dann geht es weiter . After deboarding, the mechanics started immediately the maintenance of our engines and filled up all operating fluids in front of the long trip across the Indian Ocean to Bombay / VABB.   2. LEG 6 HDAM /Djibouti Ambouli Intl. Airport - OYRN Mukalla Airport Der heutige Abendflug brachte uns nach Yemen, hier war der Flughafen von Mukalla unser Ziel, gelegen an der yeminitischen Küste dürfte der Anflug auf eine der beiden Pisten 06/24 uns vor keine größeren Probleme stellen. Die ausgearbeitete Route unseres Navigators sollte zunächst über den Golf von Aden zum VOR Aden und von dort weiter an der Küste entlang nach Mukalla führen. Die vorausberechnete Flugzeit beträgt 02:10 Std. Today's evening flight brought us to Yemen, here the airport of Mukalla was our destination, located on the Yemeni coast the approach to one of the two runways 06/24 should not present us with any major problems. The worked out route of our navigator should lead first over the Gulf of Aden to the VOR Aden and from there further along the coast to Mukalla. The predicted flight time is 02:10 hrs. Da unser lieber Phileas Fogg tagsüber noch einge Besorgungen zu erledigen hatte legten wir die Abflugzeit auf die frühen Abendstunden. Mir sollte es Recht sein, da es entlang der yeminitischen Küste nicht viel zu sehen gab. Lediglich der Endanflug auf Mukalla mit den Bergen sollte etwas Abwechslung bringen Since our dear Phileas Fogg still had some errands to do during the day, we set the departure time for the early evening hours. It was fine with me, since there was not much to see along the Yeminite coast. Only the final approach to Mukalla with the mountains should bring some change´s Nach einem unspektakulären Flug landeten wir aufgrund günstiger Winde bereits nach einer Flugzeit von 01:48 Std auf der 06 in Mukalla. Gemeinsam fuhren wir dann zu unserem Hotel, wo wir die NAcht verbringen werden. Morgen geht es dann weiter von Mukalla zunächst nach Salalah wo wir vor unserem Sprung über den Indischen Ozean nochmals die Motoren checken lassen. After an unspectacular flight we landed due to favorable winds already after a flight time of 01:48 hrs on the 06 in Mukalla. Together we drove to our hotel, where we will spend the night.   3. Today we planned our Route from Jeddah -OEJN to the Airport of Djibouti -HDAM (Ambouli Intl.) Leg 5 With mostly claer skies we start our Journey from Rwy 34C / OEJN and climb up to FL150 after 02:25 hours we start our decent into HDAM where we land on RWy 09 after 02:55 h flighttime. The next Leg will bring us from Djibouti Ambouli Intl./ HDAM to Mukalla Airport/ OYRN in Hadramwt/Yemen.   7. The second leg of the tour brought me on 25/12/2021 from Rome Fiumicino (LIRF) to Athens Venizelos (LGAV). At an altitude of 17.000 feet we went along the Italian coast first to the beacon SORRENTO/SOR - 112.200 Mhz which we reached after about 45 minutes flying time. We continued to the beacon CROTONE/CRN - 117.100Mhz where we finally left the Italian airspace over the Ionian Sea. Our route towards Athens continued over the beacon ARAXOS/ARA - 112.700 Mhz, where we reached the Greek mainland after a flight time of 02:03 hours. Here we started our descent, but not without ignoring the mountain ridges rising up to 8000 feet. Passing the Corinth Canal, the island of Aegina and the Saronic Gulf where we turned in the VOR - KARISTOS (IAF) 112.200(KRO) forn our final approach to runway 21L of Athens Venizelos Airport, where we landed after a flight time of 02:46 hrs. Now we plan to spend the Christmas holidays in Athens, where we would like to use our stay to get to know the ancient treasures of the Acropolis and the much praised Greek cuisine with one or the other glass of Retsina.   9. Hello dear friends Here we are on the eve of the great challenge. We are standing at Gate R2 of London Heathrow Airport and the on-board mechanics are checking the engines once again and carrying out final repairs before we set off on our journey. In the meantime, I was already at the dispatcher who gave me the first route section on my round-the-world trip. This takes us first to the Midhurst /MID beacon then across the channel to the XAMAB waypoint where we enter French airspace. Further past Paris and Geneva to the Italian airspace, which we will reach at the waypoint KOGAS. We will continue our journey over the Gulf of Genoa and the Ligurian Sea to the ELB beacon of Elba, where we will begin our descent to Rome Fiumicino Airport.
