Well, I forgot about it too . But looking forward to another nice flight with you guys in which my T-38 or brandnew 146 series can be put to the test .
-
I think any GA parking will do, as they're generally big enough?
-
I'm very much eyeing the QW Bae146 series, which came out last weekend. It looks like holding out on the JustFlight version like Matt suggested was spot on. Has anyone bought it yet? Impressions from the quallity wings and Flight1 websites and youtube are very good imo.

Blowing some life back into this old thread...
Since flying online again this week with some nice folks has whetted my online appetite again, I hereby have a suggestion which I myself intend to follow strictly:
Whenever I'm flying, either offline or online, I'll at least be online on the Aerosoft Teamspeak server. That way a very spontaneous online flight can be set up, just by asking me (or anyone) on the TS channel. A server is set up in no time and enough fun can be had. I had a very nice flight this week with just Dave (aka Habit109), which inspired me to start this.
So, if you are flying sim on FSX (but Rise of Flight could also do for instance), just also be logged in on the Aerosoft Teamspeak server.
If everybody here does this, there will most likely be a lot more action at EAFS or other fields online than we've had before.
If you're asked to come online flying but can't, or maybe first want to finish your offline flight, that's fine too ofcourse.
This idea is just for presenting more opportunities to fly online with eachother.
What say you?

-
Dave,
PM'ed you.
-
Dave,
I noticed some omissions in some of the repaints myself.
In the parts that are to be pasted in the aircraft.cfg, under the [sim] part, sometimes T38A or T38A1 is mentioned instead of T38A3. I changed all to T38A3, since all the regular paints have that, although I haven't accounted if all is well (all repaints showing and working under the aircraft menu).
Furthermore, always make sure that under the [fltsim.xxx] the xxx is an inclining number. Any break in the "chain" (ie 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7) will make all repaints after the missing number not visible under the aircraft list.
As far as TrackIR is concerned: It is my most useful and never to be missed addition to FSX, or any flightsim for that matter.
I simply can't fly without it anymore.
-
Looks like you two had a good flight. Shame I couldnt join in, still without my home internet connection
No worries, Matt. There will be other occasions.
-
Dave,
easy and not very sophisticated. I use TrackIR, so in any look just turning my head gives me a correct image on the screen. I only have to adjust vertical angle via my hatswitch and sometimes the zoom. Just tapping the 'V' for screenshot does the rest. Images are stored in ../my documents/pictures/fsx as BMP with date and timestamp for a filename, so no overwriting of previous pictures. Converting them to JPG via paint.net (also use that together with dxtbmp for repainting) is a breeze, after which I can upload them.
I'll upload them to the MilViz site too, good idea. I got all the repaints I have, including the Navy Testpilot School one from last night, via the MilViz forum. Some are directly on there, others are linked on simouthouse, avsim or flightsim.
The Talon is a twitchy one, with all that power but o so small wings. The rudder is never to be touched when wheels off the ground, so I've found out the hard way....
Turning? Bank 30 degrees and pull back on the stick! Using rudder throws you in a snaproll. I think I'll do some aerobatics tonight at EAFS with her, plus figure out the TACAN/VOR radio and how the ILS works. She's not that hard as long as you keep the speed up. The AOA indexer and -Indicator are very useful tools (page 99 and 100 of the POH)!
In the end, the hardest thing to do is to fly economically with her. I think I would have gotten from EAFS to LGIR in one go, If i'd have climbed to her absolute ceiling of 55000ft on full MIL power, NOT using the afterburner for takeoff and initial climb and gliding down to LGIR for the last 100 nm. As it was, I came in on LGKR with 25% fuel left and in LGIR with 70% left. She'll maintain 380kts IAS @ 25000ft with a fuelflow of 1200 and fly some 1000nm while doing that. Climb to 33000ft (in 1 minute!) on full afterburn and the tanks are 30% down.
I try to fly online a lot, but am shy of "professional" organisations like VATSIM or IVAO. Some likeminded individuals in comparable aircraft are all that's needed!

Habit, strange. I have win7 64 and no trouble with nl2000. Ihave both switzerland and austria, but the missions from verticalstudios are great without.
Hope to see you both tonight!
-
For those interested: I intend to fly EAFS - LGIR again tonight using the MilViz T-38. I reckon I can do EAFS - LGKR, or maybe some field less farther, after a refueling going to LGIR. The total trip should take about 2,5 hrs. I'll do it online again, making my own gamespy server (to join me in the air) and using the Aerosoft Teamspeak server for voice.
I think I'll be online from about 17:30 UTC, or 19:30 UTC+2 (Dutch time accounting summer DST).

I just crashed the T38 at Eindhoven! I managed to download all the files last night thank the Lord for a fast internet connection, I just need to update the files to V4.02 now and I should be sorted my FPS at Eindhoven were around the 20FPS dropping to 18/16 occasionally. The installation was tricky and I am not looking forward to the V4.02 installer faff again, I will try and get it sorted this afternoon.
If in doubt, look at the FAQ on the NL2000 website. I had issues some time ago and went through a world of hurt, when I just should have unticked all modules in the installer, install the new installer and re-tick all modules.
I'll see if i'll put up "my own" adventure up here to fly in the Netherlands online. First the weather should get worse, so I have a legitimate excuse for wife and kids to go fly online on an extended period.
P.S.
Our wives should never meet, EVER!

Habit,
T38:
T38 POH manual is on the milviz T-38 website. It's the real deal, about 280 pages, but I've flown from Andras Field to Venice yesterday with pretty much nothing more than common sense and the occasional "what does that button do?"
NL2000:
It seems all NL2000 modules on their website are downloadable via torrent, avsim or dedicated ftp link. It IS a framerate eater, but can be manageable with slidersettings. I use the FSPS FSX booster from simmarket with good result myself.
-
On the return trip i'm DEFINATELY using the milviz T-38. I got it this weekend at 50% off (going till sept 5, wink wink) and man what a rocket!
-
Tobus,
I had NL2000 V3 for FS2004, but I don't like Bit Torrent, probably due to ignorance but I do not wish to give others the use of my PC or internet, it sounds selfish but it is the security side of things that concerns me. I do not have or own any pirate software and I think Bit Torrent is used a lot for this. If I could get it on a disc/DVD I would buy it.
Habit. All modules are also on Avsim (I think). If not, PM me, I think I can arrange other means of download.
-
On another note:
I've suggested the following to Chris Klein from Vertical Studios regarding his fly-outs also:
Do you guys know of the freeware and excellent NL2000 scenery? It is a photographic scenery of the entire Netherlands.
If you have it, or are willing to get it, I'd be much obliged to give you guys a or several tours of The Netherlands "low and slow", also using Aerosoft airfields EHRD, EHAM and EHLE , say 1-1,5 hrs per tour?
-
@Ole
sounds good to me, although it is a long flight and I'm not much of a jetliner pilot (too many switches for an automated bus). I'll see if I can get to grips with my shiny new Milviz T38 Talon. Hell, I'm even crazy enough to do it in my Dimona X. If not, I'll try to get in on a jetliner, for the full length or half.
8 PM (UTC?) sounds good, morning flights are hard for me with 2 small kids to so "yes" on the spot. Will have to sweet talk the wife for that .

Yeah, too bad we had our share of technical gremlins. My pc bonked in the afternoon, it being 37 degrees here in Holland. After opening my case and setting up a tablefan blowing into the case all went well last evening, but the server gave us too much trouble. Strange, since I've only known the FSX-Gamespy thing to exhibit this behaviour in the Free Flight lobby, not in the other ones.
Technical things aside: it was fun while it lasted.
Although ... may I suggest more similar craft for the next time?

Guys,
what I was talking about online tonight:
https://www.facebook.com/pages/Vertical-Studios/130096683668308
http://www.vertical-studios.net/flying-club
If you're interested, sign-up and follow. I had a blast flying with them.
-
Yes, but doesn't really matter, same airfield, different runways.
-
Habit,
The Aerosoft Teamspeak server = 85.114.130.22
Password = same as gameserver in FSX: softaero
-
Ok, only sunday again it is then. Matt, let kbow your ETA @LGIR in utc too, please.
-
I'll just try to be online at both evenings in 1-1,5 hr flights, somewhere over the Aegean and ending at Heraklion.
FLY-OUT/IN Sunday August 19´th
in Andras Field - Airport

I simply love the QW/F1 146. She doesn't have thrustreversers, so yeah, set those auto spoilers and use the airbrakes. They are very efficient.
And Mikonos is on my wantedlist as well, so that will happen too. For now I'm busy circumventing Scandinavia for Andras Meridian Airlines. Next stop: Valan (northcape!).
