  1. Dude, personal foul!!! I am giving you a penalty or on your side of world are they called red cards? In any case 245 Kilos? That would be a momumental task to accomplish and most definitely longer accomplish than this mission. LOL

    But what I was trying to say is that the Discus rises faster than I would have imagined, given the fact, that it does use "Real Life" polars. You can almost feel it in the seat of your pants when it hits rising air.

    I am excited that someone, some Company has started to build, at least for FSX, sailplanes that are good enough to rival "Real Life" experiences. The Soar DG is still my favorite because I have learned to fly it, tight & close. (My 1st, love, can do no wrong in my eyes). If this were the real life and I had a DG I most difinitly be changing the flaps for more movement down and moving the CG back. I am sure that the reason that in the Discus I feel the rising air is because the balance point is further back. "Moving the CG back Livens up the plane".

    Sunday Afternoon, I took the ASH-25, through the course with a time of 1:52:xx, This plane comes from "Rosey Max". This is a nice sailplane also but it needs some tweaking for competition flying. You can feel the 25 meters of wings in those turns. It has a defintate delay and the reaction to flap movements. Instead of making new sailpanes, what about just making the older planes, more real. Wouldn't it be nice to have a race with MiniMoa's. If my time allows I am going to try and fly the course with a MiniMoa. I will report back on my findings but I don't think I am going to be do it without a potty break or two so I will have pauses.

  2. It is funny you should mention "Natrual Thermals". It might explain my flight with the Soar DG, I just had. I finished the course with a time of 1:38:42. Between tp2 and tp3, I was at about 5,000 ft and not a thermal in sight, heading for tp3. I decided I needed the practice anyhow and headed straight for tp3. I experienced three, what I beleived to be at the time, wave lifts. But now, that you have mentioned it, maybe they were "Natural Thermals". I only slowed down in these "Waves" but what a flight saving surprise to find lift where I truly beleived I was heading for a land out.

    Between tp3 and the finish, I also experienced some unexpected lift. Again I was headed for a land out at about 900 ft about 20 miles from the finish. I found lift that I used to get to 3,000 ft and headed in a hurry, for the thermal that just appeared to the right about 4 or 5 miles away. It saved my bacon, again. I really need to loose some weight so I can get into a real sailplane. I am 6'2" and 245. Last month, We took a trip to Boston. We rented a car and drove to aplace where I fly alot in FSX, called Sugarbush. The weight limit @ Sugarbush was 225. I still enjoyed the drive up there but I need to experience this in real life, even if it is just once.

    OK, that being said and you knowing that I am overweight, I took a picture of my finish with the DG, I missed taking a picture with Discus, But I have both "IGC" files. How do I save the picture and post it? In my Zip file is an excel spreadsheet with the picture in it. Being an Accountant, Excel is what I use everyday so I apoligize for the method I used.

  3. OK Guys

    1st I want to thank Peter for "FANTASTIC" CumulusX clouds. CumulusX "ROCKS". My time for the task was 1:46:50. It was my third attempt but one of those should not count because my wife made me get up and help turn the mattress over on the bed.

    I was not ever capable of finishing Peter's version. I always landed out somewhere between turn two and the home stretch. I found one thermal just after turn point two, that was off the scale. It shot me up to 6,000 ft in no time. It seems that the Discus rises pretty fast, almost unreal. I don't pay much attention to my altitude when I am in a thermal. I have to concentrate pretty hard on the turn and staying centered. I glance over and "Oh Crap, I am wasting time getting to high". I guess some would say getting high is never a waste but never the less I was on a time schedule. One time, on Peter's version, at a low altitude, I suffered from spin and buried the discus so hard in the ground it started to hop, from the pain I am sure.

    In any case the Discus is quite a fine flying machine. I still preffer the Soar DG, mainly because of the flaps. Peter, Ian, The Aerosoft team and who ever else, thank you so much, from the bottom of my heart, for the trills of all of this stuff.

  4. Glider friends, hope the thermals have been good for you.

    As you may know we are pretty close to releasing the Discus Gliders X addon but one of the problems I got is with the manual. Now the product is, as you know, fully made by actual glider pilots, but all of them are germans and we got problems with getting some of the terms translated to English. Is there anybody who is willing to assist with that? To explain my issues see the attached image.

    I also got some problems explaining the 3 different variometers in the panel and I would like to know if there is somebody who is willing to make me a text to explain those things. I could start to copy from different sites but I could easily mess up.

    Of course free copies for anybody willing to help!

    I am more than willing to give my two cents worth.

    Sam

  5. Sorry guys to hear about problems...I got Mine to work and it is just great. I flew today @ Sion and my height was about 5,200 ft, almost straight up. I am due a cable break though. I had problems with mine but I really thought it was me (and still think so).

    Check your files that load the programs. EXE.xml & DML.xml If you would like ot use mine as an example I would be happy to post, with Peter's permission.

    SlaminSamuel

  6. SlaminSam,

    in a first glance the exe.xml looks ok for me. dll.xml should not be relevant fo my tools. Two remarks, though:

    First: It's unusual to find the lower case c: drive letter. The automatic installation would produce an upper case. So I assume that you did the exe.xml fully by hand.

    Second: This could explain also the triple-! in the CumulusX! section.

    Yet, all of these should not be really relevant.

    Did you make the first flight under admin login, und using the rest of the time a different user account? This might explain the exe.xml which only contained the WinchX! entry. Every account has its own set of fsx.cfg, and .xmls.

    Do the menu entries of CumulusX!, WinchX!, and sim_probe show up in FSX? You may also open taskmanager to check if the modules have been loaded.

    The only unknown to me so far is the addon simvar.exe. You may try to disable it temporarily to see if it makes a difference.

    regards,

    Peter

    I am so sorry. I had set my REX (Real Enviroment Xtreme) to parameters that confilicted each other. I was playing with too many toys at the same time. That "Simvar" addon is for a mission editor. My friends on the other websites are not createing them fast enough for me so I thought I might create my own. But I can not get them to the quality of B21....yet. Be asured that no flying site is out of my reach, anymore. I just need a new cell phone to make the voice. Right now it sounds like a "Table Saw". I don't think very many pilots speak "Table Saw".

    WinchX works more than great and I am able to get about 3000 ft in tow using about two clicks on the flaps. I have been tring to perfect the "Zoom" at the end of the winch tow. It is good, so far, for about another five hundred feet. I will be able to get more with a combination of negitive flaps and the "Zoom". I am shooting for 4000 feet right now. My head wind was 12mph. I can't say enough about how realistic it feels, here on this end anyhow. Thank you so much for this.

    While I am at it...Thank you for CumulusX ( & Sim_Probe) also. With the new version of CumulusX, all the missions that used the default settings for CumulusX are all New. The thermals have moved. So let it serve as a warning, when followers, start soaring again this fall. all those missions are new again. The clouds are acceptable but I think by adding another "Real Clould" in the centor of the "Ring of Clouds" would make it a little more appealing to the eye (JMHO). And the shadows.... well I really think it is cheating ... but I use them.

    All your work is the BEST and a big thank you from this "Leach". I will try to contribute but lack of skill, in that playing field leaves me short.

    SlaminSamuel

  7. Peter

    The WinchX! is fantastic!!! But I can not get it to play with my other addons. I have tried all different combinations too. I tried it with a simple frre flight I to try and find lift and come to find out my EXE.XML had been changed and shorten to only include WinchX!. So I added the missing items back and low and behold I can't fly with the winch with these items added back to my system. I am sure that it is me. My DLL.XML & EXE.XML are listed below. If you or someone else here could tell me what I have done wrong please let me know.

    THIS IS MY FAULT, I HAD SET MY REX 2.0 (REAL ENVIROMENT XTREME) TO HD. THE WINCH WORKS GREAT AND NO CONFLICTS.!!!!!!

  8. I really love this stuff.

    I would really like to see this Sailplane, and many others, introduced. Is there anyway you guys can throw some "CHUM" in the waters. I need more than is currently available for sailplane enthusiasts. Maybe package the sailplanes with scenery files. And I really think that some "real" looking clouds for CumulusX could be made by you guys in a instant. I have dollars in hand...throw me a hook, PLEASE!!!

  9. Hodge

    Who knows what I was talking about... but the DEFAULT scenery was so different from the real thing that I was flying through mountains, when I viewed my IGC file on Google earth. I was insinuating that if Sim_probe was using "Real World Data" my flight would have very different and lift (& Sink) would have been in different places.

    Thanks'

    Sam

    I am with you on this topic. But on the other hand I do appreciate the fact that Ravna is looking out for our best interest(s) also. I really enjoy what Ravna has brought to the table for us all to munch on and I really hope he is not turned to the "Dark Side". Ravna punched out two missions, that were in my humble opinion, pretty good. He gave me reason to expand my horizons to more texture and scenery. I do not posses the ability, skills or forethought that Ravna does and if he is converted he will be missed by our community.

    Thanks

    1st try to disable guage4 in the in the [Vcockpit01] section. I just stuck two "//" infront of the line. That should do it for now. I think the conflict is coming from multiplayer sound choices or defaults. until I can narrow in further that is all I can give you.

    //gauge04=dsd_fsx_xml_sound3!sound, 0,0,,, .\SimObjects\Airplanes\DG808S_SOAR\panel.virtualsoaring\DSD_DG808S.ini

    //gauge05=.!DGSounds, 127, 140, 115, 115

    Thanks

  12. I notice that several pilots flying the new Hilltop Hop Day 1 mission using the SoarDG are experiencing framerate difficulties and there are several current posts related to this on the site "flightsimulatorxmissions.com."

    The thing that confuses me on this issue is that I (and others) have been flying the Soar DG for some time now without any framerate problems at all and believe me I would notice it (4yr old single core machine and only a 6600gt gpu) Got me foxed!

    http://www.flightsimulatorxmissions.com/mo...84&start=15

    Jeff

    Jeff

    Thank you for the new mission!! I enjoyed it and found my problem with the "Soar DG808". What I found was that if I "commented out" three lines in the panel.cfg file it works again.

    It now looks like this

    [VCockpit01]

    file=..\..\DG808S\panel\DG808s_Panel_Gauges_2.bmp

    size_mm=256,256

    pixel_size=256,256

    texture=$DG808s_Panel_2

    background_color=0,0,0

    gauge00=..\..\DG808S\panel\DG808S!asi, 10, 13, 103, 104

    gauge01=b21_vario_v2!variometer, 14, 152, 90, 90

    gauge02=..\..\DG808S\panel\DG808S!altimeter, 127, 140, 115, 115

    gauge03=..\..\DG808S\panel\DG808S!nav_display, 130, 5, 121, 122

    //gauge04=dsd_fsx_xml_sound3!sound, 0,0,,, .\SimObjects\Airplanes\DG808S_SOAR\panel.virtualsoaring\DSD_DG808S.ini

    //gauge05=.!DGSounds, 127, 140, 115, 115

    //gauge06=.!TrimWizard, 0,0

    I really think I don't need to "comment out" TrimWizard but I haven't tried it yet to know. I am guessing that the sound is interfereing with the radio or voice in the setup under sounds, Windows Sound Devices or user interface sounds. I just know that I am going to post a good score for the "HillTop Hop".

    Thanks hodge for pointing me in the right direction.

  13. I downloaded the Lighthorse repaint also and added it to the SOAR DG808S. But to make it work I had to do some adjustments to the flightsim.x section of the aircraft.cfg, other than suggested in the readme that comes with the Lighthorse-download.

    I flew it for about 20 minutes in free flight and didn't notice any drop of framerates.

    My flightsim.x secton for the Lighthorse now looks like this (the bolded lines are the ones I changed):

    [fltsim.1]

    title=DG808S_Lighthorse

    sim=virtualsoaring

    model=

    panel=virtualsoaring

    sound=

    texture=FVL

    kb_checklists=DG808S_check

    kb_reference=DG808S_ref

    atc_id=N609FVL

    ui_manufacturer="DG FlugzeugbauFVL"

    ui_type="DG-808S"

    ui_variation=" LighthorseFVL"

    ui_typerole="Glider"

    ui_createdby="Lighthorse"

    description="The DG-808S Competition is a lightweight, high-performance sailplane constructed with composite materials. It features a sophisticated water ballast system that allows the pilot to tailor wing loading to prevailing weather conditions. In weak thermals, the large surface area of the sailplane's 59-foot (18-meter) wingspan makes for high lift and good climb performance without ballast. In heavier weather, the DG-808S Competition's combination of low weight and high strength allows it to take off at more than twice its empty weight with enough ballast to soar in strong thermals. In all conditions, its upswept winglets increase the sailplane's already excellent glide ratio."

    Hope this helps.

    Thank you very much. I will use the same format as you have listed above. Then this part will be assure of being correct. I used a different method. I renamed the original "T" files and copied in the Lighthorse "T" files with the old name.

  14. hmmm tricky - I don't think anyone else has reported any issue like this. The SOAR DG808S V3 is actually made up of a number of components and you might try disabling various bits to see if your problem goes away, e.g. just replace panel.cfg with the one from the original so you have the V3 performance but not the instruments. Forgive me but I'm a bit dubious that it's the DG808S because there's not much in it that would be framerate-related. If you fly FSX in windowed mode you could have task manager running in another window, click the processes tab, sort by cpu utilisation, and see if there are any other processes using up the CPU. If you run the mission with 'allow changes', and switch aircraft (to anything, e.g. cessna) when the problem occurs, does the framerate go back up? Or what about if you run the same mission from the get-go with another aircraft (i.e. 'allow changes' and 'change aircraft' right at the start of the mission) does the problem still happen?

    After flying the Indonesia Mission, I was very upset with ground textures. I started to search for scenery files for Indonesia but I found so many other sceneries I just started downloading them, some are huge. I also found a repaint of the DG808S by LightHorse. So whatever I did was related to those items. However that being said, my problem now resides with FSX & the "Soar DG808".

    My 1st step was to run FSX in windowed mode with Task Manager running. I saw that FSX is using both processors and maxing out the CPU and besides CumulusX jumping to the top occasionally, I saw nothing out of the ordinary.

    My second step was to change the aircraft back to the original DG808 and the frame rates when back up to about where I thought they should be and I finished the mission using the old DG808. In this case, it was Austria #4. Not convinced it was the Soar DG808 I flew the Day 1 mission with the Soar DG808. At about 7:30 into the mission my FPS had dropped to about 15FPS. I switched to the Old DG808 and the frame rates when back up to the 35-45FPS range. I flew the old DG808 to about 12 minutes or so after getting settled on the ridge going back to turn point #2, switched back to the Soar dg808 and about 30 seconds later the frame rates dropped to .5FPS switched to then the ASH 25 and FPS went back up again flew it past turn point #2. The task Manager showed nothing but FSX & CumulusX using any processing power.

    My 3rd Step, I shut off CumulusX and no changes, meaning that the same results occured again. It is not CumulusX or Sim_probe.

    My 4th Step was to download a new version of Soar DG808 and install. I tried this several times 1st was a copy over the old files, Second time was to delete old files then replace and the 3rd time was possibly a hidden file was present so I cleared the Folder and started new with a new folder.

    The fact remains that I downloaded and installed something I shouldn't have without knowing the result. Right now my Mom is visiting from Washington State and it will have to wait until next week sometime to figure it out. I plan on removing the scenery files I downloaded and the repainted DG808. If those do not work then I plan on looking at the "Trim Wizard" and the sound files for more clues. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

    Thank you for the Soar DG808. I love this plane and I will make it work again. However I will invest in FSGenisis for my scenery upgrade instead of those other Free Scenery files. It should save a lot of headaches down the road if I am running the same as you other guys. Wish me luck.

    Thanks

    SlaminSam

  15. Sam,

    Where do get the LightHorse repaint for the DG-808?

    Thanks,

    Don

    Don

    I found it on his website or at SimViation here. http://simviation.com/simviation/?ID=145&page=1000 But if you download it be aware that it maybe the cause of my current problem with the "Soar DG808". My problem is that when I use the "Soar DG808" in any mission, my frame rates go from 40 to 50 to near zero. If I were to download it again I would only take the textures from the extracting process. Being unempoyed gets me into all kinds of trouble.

    Thanks

    SlaminSam

  16. The new version (V3) of the DG808S, replacing prior versions, is now available:

    click here for download

    The new version includes

    * everything in SOAR DG V2

    * a roll-up of the recent updates (Flap and Spoiler sounds, TrimWizard)

    * bug fixes to the instruments

    * a German readme and alternate aircraft.cfg

    * a new mission - the actual 2008 USA 18m Nationals Day 1 Task (373km near Mifflin).

    all in a single simple install package...

    Credits: Bert de Bruin, Ian Forster-Lewis, Peter Luerkens, Microsoft for the original DG808S, Douglas S. Dawson for sound module.

    I am having problems with the "Soar DG808s". I have downloaded it several times and re-installed even more. Between five and eight minutes into a mission, where I have replaced the old DG808 with the "Soar DG808", My frame rates begin to fall and end up having to kill the program. (or in the Mifflin Mission with the Soar DG808 the same holds true.) My FPS are 30 to 50, when I fly the old DG808 or the ASH 25.

    Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    SlaminSam

  17. I don't know if this is appropriate here or not, so if it isn't then please let me know. I have created a soaring video using FSX, PlayClaw, and Roxio's VideoWave that I thought I would share. It can be found at:

    http://www.vimeo.com/3419160

    This is a short soaring flight out of Bad Ragaz airfield, Switzerland in an LAK Genesis 2 sailplane using Microsoft Flight Simulator X. I also use a small program called "Aerotow" to select the towplane of my choice, and to get the tow plane to fly the pattern that I want. The Genesis 2 sailplane is a standard-class glider with ballast, and is one of the best freeware gliders that I have found for FSX so far.

    This is the very first video that I have produced. Any comments would be welcome. Thanks...

    Randy L.

    Thank you very much Randy for the video....but.... if you want an even better "SailPlane" Try the "SOAR DG808s". It is available from this website. You'll fall in love, all over, again, with Soaring. It is so real. The flaps work like they are intended to work. Set the plane at 90 to 100, F6, for reflex and don't exceed 120 or so. If you want to go faster just F6 again and take it to the limit. The L/D is by far extended over the original. I even downloaded the "LightHorse" repaint for my version. post-14232-1214401470_thumb.jpg You still have to work the mountain or the thermal. Try this in the Austrian series 3 or 4 you should be able to get your times in the high 40's or low 50 minute time frames, easy. Just be careful in the sink areas because it still falls, I think, even faster than the original did but then again you will be flying so much faster you will sail right through the sink. Again thank you for the video.

  18. Hey guys,

    great idea. Is there someone who can host and wants to fly some Multiplayer-Misson-Glider-Races? Preferably 20:oo UTC - 01:oo UTC? on weekends possibly +1 or +2 longer.

    I'd really love to try that out. But give me some time to react. I'm not online every day/night and - special thanks to my boss here - need some time to save a little time window in my schedule.

    Dirk.

    Dirk.

    Please to meet you. I would like to do something simple 1st, that everyone has run like Austria 2 or 3. But...I think it is OK with me? Is 20:00 UTC = 1:00pm MST? Maybe I should ask "B21" if he could modify the Austrian series for multiplayer?

    BTW I went to the Southwest Classic on Saturday. I would say there was about 100+ RC Sailplanes and as many as 15 Sailplanes in the air at one time. About 5 or 6 Winches. I placed my "tentitive"order for the new Radio from Airtronics the SG-10G. It was really good and they had BBQ, Pulled Pork Sandwiches. A really good turn out and the weather on Saturday was great too. The air field they flew at was about 40 miles from my house. It was a good time to be had by all. Spectator and participate alike. I was have testing done on Sunday so I was unable to participate.

    I am most happy to host but lets talk more before we go and do it.

    Thanks

    SlaminSamuel

  19. Peter

    They look much more realistic. Thank you for everything that you do. I have not had the time to post my appreciation for the things you do but hear me now. You are fantastic, creative, a scholar and a gentleman. Thank you very much.

    SlaminSamuel

  20. Ravna

    Good Mission - time was 2:58:20. I liked the airport and the arrangement of the buildings/aircraft, when I landed. I differently need a scenery add-on though. I reviewed my flight with "IGC Flight Replay" and the FSX scenery in nowhere near the real thing and explains why I was getting sink and lift in places when there should have been none. According to Google I flew the terrain several times. My main concern was the rain and how it would effect my L/D. There was little to no effect but the rain was by far more annoying than the vario ever thought about being. What I learned by this flight... was I need to quit doing "figure 8's" in thermals. Yea sure it works but someday I will get to fly with someone else and I'll be breaking two planes instead of one.

    I still don't know what happened in the 1st attempt, when my wings disappeared, but I figure it was lightning, birds or indo guerrillas attacking my plane. I saw a hot air balloon between tp1 and tp2. I saw, of course the birds in my 1st attempt, and a Zeppelin I think it was between tp3 and tp4 and in Google it was just before the UNICEF water treatment plant.

    My recommendation to anyone flying this mission, get a scenery add-on!!!

    Very good, mission.

    Thanks for the rewards of Monsoon racer & the Plane-wash.
